An opportunity is available to lead an internal quality team within the Lafayette Engine Center (LEC) based in Lafayette, Indiana. The LEC is source for the industry recognized 3500, 3600 & C175 engines and power systems and engine core components such as cylinder blocks, crankshafts, connecting rods and cylinder heads.
The position is responsible for assembly quality, certification, and the development and adherence to quality processes. This position will supervise personnel responsible for preventing quality defects, problem solving for defects that do occur, and tracking quality metrics. This position will ensure conformity to global quality processes defined in the Caterpillar Quality Management System (QMS), and ensure resources are trained and competent.

The incumbent is accountable for conformity to global quality processes and reporting to Caterpillar Quality Management System (CQMS) process execution. The role is responsible for setting priorities, adherence to Built In Quality (BIQ) practices, training team members in Root Cause / Permanent Correction Action, and managing shop floor quality controls.
The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the execution of processes, plans and tools that support global quality systems or related processes i.e. APQP, Deviations, internal certifications and CQMS. The incumbent will also ensure alignment to CPS (Caterpillar Production System) principles including: CAV, BIQ, Continuous Improvement (CI) process, etc.
The incumbent is responsible for the training, motivation and development of employees. The incumbent provides counsel and advice to employees concerning personal and assigned work problems, recommends merit increases for qualified employees, disciplines employees by writing cautions and discharging or suspending employees, and writes commendations for outstanding employees. These are the tools used by the incumbent to motivate people. Personal contact is made daily with each employee relating to quality problems, safety, housekeeping, etc.
Typical internal customers include various contacts in a single geographic area. External contacts include various customers and vendors throughout worldwide markets. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments to achieve desired results. The incumbent's work is reviewed after completion, except in the most complex or high impact situations. Their work and leadership directly impact key quality goals including Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Timeliness, Accuracy, Efficiency, Cost Savings, Process Quality, Part Quality, Internal Quality Certification, etc.
