Position Summary

This individual must be capable of working closely with management, Engineering and various other departments to exchange information and ideas critical to the successful implementation and manufacture of prototype projects, working from blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions. This individual will assist in organizing tooling, work holding devices, fixtures and any other product necessary for the efficient manufacture of prototype and R&D type projects.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine the most optimal method of manufacture in a fast passed environment.
  • Setup and operate CNC/manual lathes
  • Setup and operate CNC/manual mills
  • Setup and operate honing and surface grind machines
  • Interpret Engineering drawings for proper manufacture
  • Knowledge to select and implement proper tooling required for processing per drawing specifications
  • Proficient knowledge of material machinability for efficient manufacturing
  • Proficient use of all required measuring devices required to inspect manufactured components
  • Strong communication skills to interact with various departments
  • Must be able to prioritize, organize and multi-task

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma, (associates degree preferred), 5 or more years programming, setup and machining experience on manual and CNC lathes and mills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Able to read, analyze and interrupt technical drawings, procedures and/or government regulations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry with a knowledge of geometric tolerance.

(Basic shop math skills)

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Proficient knowledge of CNC lathes/mills, tool grinding, manual lathes/mills. Knowledge of measuring equipment, general compliment of tools and their use. Knowledge of machinability of various materials. Implement manufacturing processes required for the successful manufacture of complex components.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee will use hands, fingers to handle and feel objects or controls and reach with hands and/or arms. The employee may be required to regularly lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job require close vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate. Individual reports to the machine shop supervisor.
