The Project Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of multiple Software and instrument engineering development programs, with full responsibility for the project from both business and technical perspectives. Work with Technical Leads in the planning, coordination, and implementation of Cepheid's instrument and diagnostic application software. You'll facilitate the definition of project and program scope, goals, and deliverables. Make project trade-off decisions within the boundaries of the approved project. Serve as the communication focal point for the project to the Senior Leadership. In coordination with the Cepheid diagnostics application software Team, utilize best-practice Agile methodologies (like Scrum) and processes, including issue identification and resolution, change control, and risk planning and mitigation. Manage and report project and program resource allocations.

This position is part of the PMO department and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA - Hybrid. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop, document, and manage full scale project plans, including task lists, budgets, schedules, resource requirements, change plans, Design History Files, and other ISO/FDA required project and product documentation.

  • Day-to-day management of cross-functional Core Teams including team members from departments such as Biology, Engineering Development, Sustaining Engineering, Marketing, Regulatory, Clinical Affairs, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and others

  • Manage and lead globally dispersed teams through multiple communication levels and mediums throughout the organization as well as external collaborators.

  • Monitor and report regularly on progress of the project to all stakeholders as well as to executive management.

  • Assess results of projects and incorporate improvements into the overall product development and project management processes. Contribute to continuous improvement projects for project documentation, templates, and Product Life Cycle (PLC) processes.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's degree in plus 2 years of direct work experience in medical software application or other complex software project management capacity with experience in all aspects of product development and sustaining projects; planning, execution, and product launch.

  • Experience managing global product launches and/or architecting diagnostics or medical software solutions and providing business governance recommendations.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Project, Power Point, Visio, Outlook, Excel).

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience in Quality System Regulations (QSR) 21 CFR 820; Design Control; FDA regulations.

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.

The salary range for this role is ($100-$115k). This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.

Required Knowledge - Skills - and Abilities:

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level is required.
  • ≥ 5 years of direct work experience in medical software application or other complex software project management capacity is required, with experience in all aspects of product development and sustaining projects; planning, execution, and product launch. Candidates with a background in medical industry will be preferred
  • Demonstrable track record of (1) managing complex delivering successful global product launches (2) managing and/or architecting diagnostics or medical software solution and providing business and governance recommendations
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management is required
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Project, Power Point, Visio, Outlook, Excel) is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Quality System Regulations (QSR) 21 CFR 820; Design Control; FDA regulations is required
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a highly preferred
  • Fast learner able to quickly become adept at using the Danaher Business System tool set
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage team by influence in a matrix organization.
  • Understands the functions of product development and builds partnerships between functions and cultures to accomplish the goals of the project
  • Superior interpersonal skills with demonstrated competencies in team building, influencing and negotiation, and conflict management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Comfortable presenting to and communicating with cross-functional groups at multiple levels of corporate structure
  • Proactive, hands-on management style
  • Ability to coach/mentor and train others
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, creative in finding innovative solutions to project execution or process problems
  • Demonstrated leadership strengths, adaptable to changes in project scope or direction as appropriate
