Position Summary

AIRE (Air Quality Investigation and Research for Equity) is a yearlong community-based research project aimed to bring awareness, education, unity, and action around poor air quality in the Commerce City, Globeville, Elyria-Swansea communities due to toxic air pollution from Suncor. The Program Manager will provide administrative, organizational, and program leadership and development. This individual will help lead and will assist Principal Investigators (PIs). Dr. Ramona Beltrán (CU) and Dr. Stephanie Malin (CSU) are PIs and are working in collaboration with Cultivando community organization.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Work with PIs to plan, coordinate and carry out research plan
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students working on the project
  • Organize and manage the project budget
  • Prepare research instruments, maintain project schedules and task lists
  • Engage and conduct outreach with various stakeholders, including other researchers, community members, and key organizations such as Cultivando
  • Oversee scheduling of at least 40 in-depth interviews, focusing on individual, household and community-level environmental justice and health impacts of Suncor's operations
  • Maintain secure database of participant information, interview transcripts and other confidential data
  • Assist in scheduling and attending meetings, community presentations, organizing attendees, helping create the agenda and keeping notes and organizational history
  • Help organize, run and facilitate community town halls, trainings and/or events
  • Collaborate on dissemination of research knowledge, including assisting in producing presentational materials, written reports, and summaries of data collected and analyzed. These tasks will include helping compose, revise and edit reports, documents for stakeholders and meetings and other content; disseminating policy briefs or similar white paper documents and/or helping prepare peer-reviewed documents for submission; and designing, implementing, helping develop presentations on research findings for community town halls, and maintaining relationships and projects with other researchers and community partners.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bilingual and bicultural (Spanish)
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience helping lead research team and public meetings
  • excellent written and verbal communication
  • ability to work collaboratively and/or independently
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to define and assign tasks, maintain progress, manage project budgets and deadlines and write reports
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Required Qualifications
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with social and qualitative research methods and data analysis
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years experience in project management
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education an experience in a related field
Work Schedule

0-40 hours per week, variable based on research schedule with a maximum of 1000 hours per calendar year

Hourly Rate
The hourly rate for the position is $30.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
