General Description:

A faculty member at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility of instruction. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the integrity of curricula, encouraging student success, and promoting the mission of the academic division to which the faculty member belongs as well as the College as a whole.

This position is a Safety Sensitive position and subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Associate Degree

Nationally Registered Paramedic and licensed (or eligible) at that level in Oklahoma.

Licensed (or eligible) EMS Instructor in the State of Oklahoma

Currently certified provider for:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP)

Two (2) years of documented full time equivalent (FTE) work experience in the field of EMS as a paramedic. (Example: 4 years at 20 hours per week or 8 years at 10 hours per week.)

Six months of teaching experience within Emergency Medical Services.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated positive human relations and communication skills

Basic computer skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office or similar software

Flexible teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles

Committed to helping students achieve their goals to be successful and attain a college education

Knowledge of or willingness to learn computer programs used in the department and on campus (such as MineOnline and Moodle)

Organization and attention to detail

Support and willingness to teach in a competency-based instructional system

Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers

Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit

Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner both verbally and in writing

Ability to read and understand content in order to assist students when they are having difficulty interpreting concepts

Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students individually and in groups

Ability to be available for office hours and provide means of communication with supervisor(s) and/or the department or division office

Must be punctual

Must be reliable

Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal and practice issues affecting clinical education, students, and the profession of Emergency Medical Services.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift/move regular lab equipment, i.e. less than 40 pounds.

This is a full-time position. Teaching schedules can include online, days, nights and/or weekends. Required institutional activities (other than attendance at commencement) usually occur in the classic eight-to-five Monday through Friday work week

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Faculty are accountable for the following.

Instructional Responsibilities

Programs

- Accept accountability for supporting student learning through quality instruction in sections of credit and/or non-credit courses which the faculty member, Program Director, and the Division Dean agree upon.

- Assist the Program Director and Division Dean in developing, implementing and evaluating approved academic programs to meet community needs.

- Assist the Program Director, Division Dean and the Vice President for Academic Affairs in determining new academic programs to meet community needs.

- Support the development of a collegial teaching environment.

- Represent the profession, the program, and the Division in a positive and appropriate manner.

- Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for the program and/or department.

Schedule

- Assist the Program Director and Division Dean in developing and maintaining a flexible schedule to meet perceived program needs. A flexible schedule is mandatory for this position as hours may vary from semester to semester, but will generally consist of a combination of morning, afternoon and evening classes.

Special Assignments

- Prepare and satisfy objectives for special assignments. Special assignments may be made by agreement between the faculty member, the Program Director, the Division Dean and the Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

- Assist with Clinical related activities/tasks as identified.

Administrative Budget

- Provide input to the Program Director and Division Dean in developing budgetary recommendations to support academic program needs for the coming fiscal year.

- Provide input to the Program Director and Division Dean on expenditures, within the approved budget allocations, to support academic needs for the current fiscal year.

Faculty Professional Responsibilities

- Actively participate in mutually agreed upon committees, attend department ceremonies, college commencement, and participate in on-campus staff development opportunities.

- Maintain current Oklahoma licensure, professional certifications specific to program/position requirements.

- Maintain clinical expertise specific to program/position requirements.

- Since individual student needs have the primary time requirement from faculty, maintain posted office hours with a minimum of ten (10) hours per week.

- Serve as an academic advisor.

- Serve as an appropriate mentor and role model for students.

- Serve as a representative for the programs EMS student organization.

- Demonstrate team building skills by functioning in a positive and collegial manner.

Job Duties (Safety / Policy & Procedures):

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices for the purpose of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC's established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation and shelter in place drills and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.
