We are currently seeking a part time Professional Tutor for Nursing lab who will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement, and who will Instruct and support students currently enrolled in the AC Nursing program; manage students' learning through individualized and small group instructions.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

Required: Associate's Degree in Nursing with a current Texas State License.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Education or related field.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

Required: Current and unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Texas or Licensed Vocational Nurse

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Required: Must be able to utilize educational technology.

Preferred: Experience in teaching.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide feedback to students using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate or build confidence in students.
  • Must have good rapport with students; must be able to assess students' goals and develop a plan for goal attainment.
  • Regularly collaborate with instructors to provide scheduled embedded support as well as department professionals in the development of individual students' needs and progress.
  • Teach students study skills, note-taking skills and test taking strategies.
  • Use a variety of instructional methods, materials, and techniques to address all learning styles and cultural differences.
  • Use different teaching strategies to simplify complex information.
  • Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
  • Provide private instruction to individual or small groups of students to improve academic performance, improve occupational skills, or prepare for academic or occupational tests.
  • Assess students' progress throughout tutoring sessions.
  • Monitor student performance or assist students in academic environments such as classrooms, laboratories, or computing centers.
  • Organize tutoring environment to promote productivity and learning.
  • Develop teaching or training materials, such as handouts, study materials, or quizzes as needed.
  • Prepare lesson plans or learning modules for tutoring sessions according to students' needs and goals.
  • Required to interact with all levels of Amarillo College personnel, community, and management.
  • Comply with all college, state and local policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Secure and safeguard all property, equipment, and training material including credit cards (if applicable) issued by Amarillo College.
  • Adhere to the Amarillo College Travel Policy guidelines as written.
  • Participate in professional learning and development as required under state or local contractual agreements and/or Amarillo College.
  • Complete all work-related tasks in a neat, orderly and timely manner.
  • Conduct self with professionalism and respect toward others.
  • Exhibit professional behavior while assisting with the needs of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Participate in and complete performance assessments/evaluations as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.

Work Conditions: This is a part time position not to exceed 19 hours/week.

Work Environment: This position works in a professional student lab environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, and filing cabinets.

Travel Expectations: Some travel may be required.

Salary: Grade 10 $20/hr.
