Purpose of Position

This position is responsible for managing and advancing the Professional Development for Educators (PDE) Program. The PDE program offers workshops, online courses, and vendor curriculum that pre K-12 educators and administrators can take for graduate professional development credit. This program also provides a venue for schools to receive graduate professional development credit for their Targeted Learning Events and their Cumulative Credit/cafeteria style professional development plans. Teachers and administrators use this graduate professional development credit for lane changes and to meet their on-going licensing requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide leadership, management and coordination of the Professional Development for Educators Program at the University of North Dakota including planning, delivery, and assessment of courses/programs.

  • Through networking, conference attendance, and committee membership, be aware of changes occurring within the educational field to look for opportunities to grow the program, or threats that could derail the program.
  • Work closely with ND state educational agencies to perform needs assessments, recommend solutions, and advocate for the PDE program.
  • Review and interpret state and national regulations in regard to teacher credentialing and licensing.
  • Survey and compile data to determine viability of new courses and the need to update existing courses. Work directly with Associate Director, Director, educational leaders, teachers, and campus departments and faculty to determine new course development.
  • Recruit, contract, and hire appropriate instructors for existing and new course development.
  • Meet with the UND instructor and UND instructional designer to discuss developing the most effective and efficient online courses.
  • Assist, as appropriate, with the course setup in the appropriate learning management system.
  • Review each course for quality, consistency, errors, and appropriate protocol.
  • Monitor student completion dates (enrollment reports) in online courses to assure timely grading by instructors.
  • Prior to the renewal timeframes, review online course agreements with UND instructor to determine if updates or revision are needed.
  • Research outside educational content vendors to determine appropriateness of partnering to increase our course offerings; identify if gaps occur with current PDE offerings and search for new offerings.
  • Work with directors and legal counsel to determine the most appropriate contract terms and conditions for vendor partnerships.
  • Work with the Data Manager, Communications Coordinator and Customer Service Specialist to be sure each credit offering is listed appropriately on the PDE website and that all instructors of record have received the information they need to have their students register for credit.
  • Work with marketing team to develop appropriate materials for the various marketing avenues, including print, electronic and social media.
  • Work with partner vendors to get students enrolled in a timely manner, and to resolve student grievances as needed.
  • Work with Finance, Data Manager and SRS team to keep the vendor payment process, UND instructor payments process, and department payouts working smoothly.
  • Travel to on and off-campus events, as needed, to manage programming.
  • Primarily maintain a Monday through Friday (8a-4:30p) work schedule; however, evening and weekend hours may be required to meet program goals and provide facilitation for some events.

Provide leadership and manage the Credit Approval process and the Cumulative Credit portion of the Professional Development for Educators Program.

  • Provide outreach (travel usually once in spring and once in fall to differing areas within North Dakota) to school districts in North Dakota to educate their administrative team on what this program can do for their school district's professional development, including credit submissions, cumulative credit and online courses for their instructors.
  • Follow up with school districts to see if they need assistance writing or submitting their cumulative credit plans or submitting credit submissions. Provide examples as needed.
  • Continue to maintain a cohesive working relationship with the Grand Forks Public Schools and the RRVEC, to be their credit approver of choice for their graduate professional development credit.
  • Closely monitor the Credit Approval process to be sure submissions are thorough, submitted correctly, and progress through the review and approval process in a timely manner.
  • Assist with annual budget development, annual goal development, and monthly budget and goal review process.
  • Continue to collaborate with NDSU and MiSU to provide multi-campus credit programs.

Participate as an active team member within the Office of Extended Learning, TTaDA and the university as a whole.

  • Work with other OEL team members to create procedures and processes that can improve overall team cohesiveness.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (Education, Educational Leadership, or related field).
  • 1 year of directly related work experience in K-12 education (teaching or administration).
  • Computer proficiency and accuracy in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, mail merge, Internet, email, and database
    management.
  • Experience working with the public and providing customer service.
  • Experience with curriculum development.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Some travel will be required, including overnights for outreach, may include an occasional weekend.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
