Position Summary

MEPPI's Transportation Systems Division located in Melville, NY is looking for an experienced Production and Inventory Control Administrator to plan, schedule and direct the flow of work and material and release production orders. In addition, you will schedule and coordinate the efficient distribution and transportation of products to satisfy customer demand. Ensure adequate supply of inventory and maintenance of accurate inventory control records and system.
Essential Functions

  • Review production and customer order data; establish priorities for specific customer orders.
  • Create and revise production and customer order schedule based on priority and availability of workers, parts, materials, machines and equipment. Provide regular verbal and written communication of same to other department members and senior management.
  • Plan material flow between warehouses to ensure timely material flow.
  • Conduct weekly production and customer order control meetings to ensure shop flow and schedule adherence.
  • Recommend corrective actions and corresponding implications of missed schedule deadlines. Revise production schedule, as appropriate.
  • Conduct inventory audits, including audits of customer-owned equipment. Regularly communicate with other department members regarding incoming parts/materials, parts changes/shortages, delivery schedules, etc.
  • Oversee physical inventory counts and investigate discrepancies and/or reason for discrepancies. Determine impact of shortages and identify appropriate solutions or alternatives to ensure schedules are met. Maintain cycle counting in system.
  • Analyze and revise shipment plans for various products as required. Assign shipments to specific carriers. Trace lost or delayed shipments. Work with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and accuracy of shipment records. Investigate and respond to inquiries regarding distribution and shipping.
  • Work with Shop Supervisor to draft and update assembly policy and procedures and supporting checklists and test sheets.
  • Draft and update operational procedures related to inventory control and production planning activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Business or operations-related field plus minimum five years experience in production and inventory control including prior experience with MRP/ERP systems, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Broad knowledge inventory control, cycle counting, raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Advanced interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Developed knowledge of bill of materials concepts.
  • Developed attention to detail and solid analytical skills to forecast and anticipate production needs and capabilities.
  • Advanced computer skills, emphasizing MS Office products and MRP/ERP systems.
