A full-time postdoc position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Czyzyk-Krzeska in the Department of Cancer Biology and University of Cincinnati Cancer Center in The Vontz Center for Molecular Studies. Dr. Czyzyk-Krzeska is a physician scientist focusing on the frequent malignant renal cancer, clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Research integrates state-of-the-art molecular biology using cell-based and animal models as well as system biology bioinformatics multiomics technologies to investigate mechanisms of ccRCC progression and to establish prognostic and predictive biomarkers. The leading focus is cancer metabolism (J Clin Invest. 2021;131(1):e140522. https://doi.org/10.1172/JCI140522). The research team includes internal faculty, postdocs and graduate students and external collaborators in the fields of molecular biology and biochemistry, bioinformatics, chemistry and medical oncology. This environment is conductive for high quality multidisciplinary training and provides strong mentoring towards development into independent investigator. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.Essential Functions
  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in grant proposal and manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education

Doctoral Degree (PhD or MD) in the Cancer Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology, Cell Biology, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Chemistry or a related field., or the recognized terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent.

    Individuals with background in computer science/bioinformatics/chemistry without biology backgrounds but who want to pivot to a future career in cancer biology are strongly encouraged to apply.Individuals trained in molecular biology with basic knowledge of coding are also strongly invited to apply.Strong organizational skills.Ability to effectively communicate in a teamwork environment.Flexibility and adaptability in the workplace.
  • The prospective candidate should be able to work independently and as a member of the science team and be motivated to develop research program in order to apply for grants transitioning towards independence.
  • Candidates are expected to demonstrate strengths in the following areas: creative, independent and critical thinking; technical skills in wet lab molecular approaches and/or bioinformatics; oral and written communications; rigor in data documentation and management.
