GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT

Plumber, 2nd shift ( 2pm-10:30pm ) Danvers, MA

Under minimal supervision, installs, repairs, maintain, inspects, secures and replaces pipe fittings and plumbing fixtures for hot and cold-water lines, acid drains, soil drainage systems, gas piping, oxygen, vacuum and air lines and all types of equipment requiring plumbing connections such as autoclaves and dishwashers and boilers. Maintains fire protection systems, water purification systems, steam distribution systems or medical gas systems as necessary. Installs, cleans, services and repairs steam lines, traps, and steam operated equipment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responds to emergency and trouble calls throughout the MGH -Danvers: (1) repair major plumbing malfunctions; ex: broken pipes and valves; (2) responds to minor problems: ex: leaking faucets, worn seals and gaskets; (3) opens clogged drains with plumber's snake and vacuum plunger.
  • Installs pipe assemblies and plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers and water heaters.
  • Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and glass, iron, copper and plastic pipes composed of metals such as iron and steel and non-metals such as plastic for water, soil drainage, gas lines and equipment requiring plumbing fittings.
  • Repairs oxygen, vacuum and air lines, dishwashers, bed pan washers, and other equipment requiring plumbing connections by replacing parts, hoses, and clearing lines.
  • Installs, repairs or service pumps, tanks, valves steam piping, automatic controls, and related equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs all steam and condensate systems such as heating, sterilizers, kitchen and cafeteria equipment, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains, cleans and services steam and hot water boilers, gas or oil fired.
  • Completes records of work performed such as time and materials used, and equipment tested or repaired.
  • Responds to problems of all trades such as carpentry, locksmith, plumbing, and HVAC as needed.
  • Responsible for snow removal as needed. 24/7 365
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Must be available for off-hour page coverage on a rotating basis.
  • Must provide and maintain a valid driver's license


  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    May be required to train and supervise others

    Fiscal Responsibilities:

    Complete the weekly time on iPad and order stock as needed.

    WORK CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to hazards from power tools, steam, heat and eye strain from torches; however, observance of safety procedures minimizes risks.
  • Exposure to steam, hot and cold water, noxious odors, gases, dampness, dirt, noise, heat and cold.
  • Compliance with the Hospital and department rules on uniforms in addition to the Buildings & Grounds policy and procedure manual.
  • The use of safety equipment such as: respirators, safety glasses, safety shoes, etc. on specific job assignments.
  • a) Pass respirator clearance exam, b) along with compliance with Hospital's universal precaution rules.
  • Understand and practice patient confidentiality (HIPPA)
  • Understand and practice infection control through proper dust containment. Understand the use of the environmental containment booths.
  • Provide own hand tools
  • overtime is required.
  • Is subject to call any time for emergencies due to increment weather, special project or plant failure.
  • Is subject to work in mechanical rooms with running equipment, steam pipes, and outside areas subject to weather conditions, etc.
  • Works in patient areas and laboratories.
  • Work requires regular walking, standing and climbing of ladders.
  • Occasionally (less than 15% of the time) must exert effort to lift over seventy pounds.

    Qualifications
    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of one to two years formal training in steam fitting plus completion of a three-year apprentice program.
  • Must have a Mass. Valid pipefitters and Journeyman Plumber License
  • Knowledge of soldering techniques.
  • Knowledge of steam loads, condensate loads, expansion, and contraction of pipes at difference temperatures, pumps, and related equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints.
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders and walk or stand almost constantly; occasionally (less than 15% of the time) must exert effort to lift over seventy pounds.
  • Basic knowledge of building automation systems
  • Must provide and maintain a valid drivers license
