Job Title:Pipefitter Mechanic

Department: Projects

FLSA Status: Hourly

JOB SUMMARY: MSI seeks a Pipefitter responsible for all aspects of Pipefitting functions including assembling and installing mechanical systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cut, thread, and install pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures and equipment using brackets, clamps, hangers or welding equipment.
  • Measure and mark pipes accurately for installation.
  • System layout from scaled or shop drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications and drawings.
  • Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers according to drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of hydronic mechanical systems.
  • Install systems and equipment according to local codes.
  • Ensures safe work practices and adheres to safety rules/policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5 years of fitting and brazing copper pipe.
  • 5 years of commercial construction experience (including piping, carpentry and refrigeration)
  • Mechanical piping experience preferred.
  • Ability to work at heights without fear.
  • Ability to get to and from job sites as required.
  • Ability to interact with colleagues, clients and the public, in a positive manner.
  • Skilled in the care and use of hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to read and understand isometric and project drawings.
  • Must be able to follow specific directions; perform a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy; repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure.
  • Physical activities of standing, balancing, climbing stairs & ladders, walking and lifting of weights of 50 lbs. or more are required in daily performance of job. Use of upper extremities required for forward and overhead reaching, pushing and pulling, and material handling. Use of torso and lower extremities required for kneeling, crawling, stooping, twisting, and squatting.
