The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Physical Therapy has an exciting opportunity for a Per Diem Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at University of Miami Hospital is staffed by registered nurses, who have a specialty experience and practice in cardiology, credentialed by the program Medical Director, and preferably a member of the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

  • The nurses are responsible for enrolling and qualifying participants for the program, performing patient's intake history collaboratively, with physical therapy interdisciplinary team members, as well as the medical director.
  • Responsibilities focus on the secondary prevention and restorative healthcare needs of the cardiovascular patient.
  • Formulates plan of treatment including exercise prescription, nutrition consult, smoking cessation and psychosocial counseling to incorporate program and patient's goal.
  • Provides direct patient care and monitors patients during exercise sessions.
  • Provides patient education on disease entities, cardiac risk factors, medical therapy and lifestyle modification.
  • Communicates with the patient, referring physician, Medical Director and team members about patient's progress, changes in the patient's clinical condition, including but not limited to outcome measures and symptomatology.
  • Is able to respond quickly and appropriately to changes in the patient's condition and response to treatment.
  • Initiates weekly Interdisciplinary Rounds and participates in performance improvement
  • Assists in program development and certification process.
  • Able to perform head-to-toe assessments on all patients.
  • Able to develop and revise treatment plan as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan at each visit. Plan includes exercise and education goals.
  • Knowledge of medications, treatments and their correct administration based on clinical condition.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of 12 L EKG, cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately based upon ACLS protocol. Monitors patient exercise sessions.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of cardiac disease, procedures, surgery: MI, CABG, coronary stents, angioplasty, valve surgery, heart transplant, etc.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of cardiac stress tests: treadmill, chemical stress test, nuclear stress test, echocardiogram.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pain assessment and management policies and procedures.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
  • Educates patients and families about cardiovascular risk factors, how to promote a healthy way of living through individual and group education and counseling sessions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cultural diversity and the skills necessary to provide culturally appropriate care to the patient population served.
  • Treats all patients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provides for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to, Medical Director, co-workers and physicians.
  • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethical, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Stays current with new treatments/technology/advancements through continuing education, seminars/conferences, professional journals/societies.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Provides maintenance and calibration of equipment as applicable.


Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing - BSN required
  • Valid Florida Registered Nurse Licensure
  • Current ACLS and BCLS certifications
  • BLS instructor preferred
  • AACVPR membership preferred
