ABOUT THE JOB:

The OnTrackNY program serves adolescents and young adults who have experienced early psychosis. Our staff use a culturally-affirming, person-centered approach to help individuals and their families develop skills and resources to improve overall functioning, to instill hope, and to strengthen resiliency. The model uses a multidisciplinary team approach alongside evidence-based interventions and recovery-oriented models to enable participants to reach goals and reduce disability. The team includes the Team Leader, Primary Clinicians, Outreach and Recruitment Coordinator, Supported Education and Employment Specialist, Peer Specialist, Psychiatrist, and Registered Nurse. Services are either provided at the clinic site, online, in the home, or other off-site locations in the community. 24-hour on-call services are included. Intensive education will be offered to all members of the OnTrackNY Team regarding the evidence-based model and their roles for members to adhere to fidelity standards and successfully support program participants.

The Peer Specialist on the team would help train clients experiencing early psychosis and serve as a role model and advocate in the areas of entitlements, self-advocacy and empowerment, daily activities, housing, education, and employment utilizing a client-centered approach while maintaining a youth-friendly, person-centered, recovery-focused, and strengths-based service delivery model. The main areas of focus are: Outreach and Engagement, Relationship Building, Embracing Creative Narratives, Co-Creating Tools for Success Supporting and Partnering with Families, Making OnTrackNY Better, Bridge Building, Group Facilitation, Community Mapping, Influencing Team Culture, Team Communication & Collaboration, and Ongoing Professional Development

TO QUALIFY

The Jewish Board is currently looking for talented professionals of all cultures, religions, races, and gender expressions with the following qualifications:

You should have:

• State certification as a Peer Specialist, OR ability to obtain provisional certification within 6 months and standard certification within 12 months of being hired.
• Relevant lived experience with psychosis during youth preferred.
• Familiarity with NYS Entitlements, Housing and Mental Health Service Delivery System.
• Basic computer skills a plus.
• Two years of active participation in mental health self-help activities, peer support or peer advocacy programs, or participant-run organizations or similar experiences or programs.
• The Peer Specialist should also be someone who has made significant progress toward their own recovery.

Additional Responsibilities

• Reach out to participants and their families in order to introduce them to the unique benefits of working with OnTrackNY so that they may build strong connections with the team.
• Develop relationships with participants that include connecting around their shared mental health experiences and other aspects of their personal lives.
• Explore and discuss multiple frameworks for understanding life experiences such as psychosis with participants and the OnTrackNY team
• Embrace diverse narratives in order to create space for complex personal stories of recovery and resilience
• Collaborate with participants to support them in increasing agency, strengthening self-awareness, building life skills, and clarifying their personal visions via the use of wellness tools
• Work alongside the participant with chosen supporters to share perspectives, have open dialogues and engage in mutual disclosure
• Participate in team meetings, team communication, and professional development opportunities provided by both Jewish Board and OnTrack Central.
