Position Summary:

Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the clinic manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient. Responsible for service excellence in both direct and indirect care of patients.

Position Responsibilities:

  • GENERAL PATIENT CARE: Rooming patients, vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, O2 saturation check, wave testing. Maintaining patient safety and Assist with ambulation of patients with assistive devices i.e. cane, walker, crutches, and assist with transfer/transport procedures as needed.
  • TECHNICAL CARE: Assist in completion of patient testing and treatment procedures as specified per clinic. Provide wound care, dressing changes, perform CPR when necessary, obtains cultures as directed by clinic.
  • EQUIPMENT: Assist physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up. Maintain clinic supplies by stocking, ordering and communicating when supplies are needed. Maintain clinic cleanliness by putting away equipment, wiping down exam beds when necessary, and maintaining patient confidentiality with putting away any patient information left out in clinic.
  • COMMUNICATION: Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements. Demonstrates ambulatory customer service standards. Maintains strict confidentiality of patient, employee and department information to ensure patient rights. Basic computer knowledge necessary to communicate through Epic and Group wise
  • QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Utilize time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes. Participate in clinic quality improvement initiatives as necessary.
  • May be assigned to specialized practice areas requiring more in depth training/certifications (ie. A1C, downloading memory cards, etc.)

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:
  • Required: High School Diploma Preferred: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
  • Specify Degree(s): Certified Nursing Assistant Residency
Minimum Experience:
  • Required: Less than one year of previous job-related experience
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Licensure/Certifications:
  • Required:
  • Certified Nurse Assistant
  • BLS CPR thru the AHA
  • Certified Nurse Assistant
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program.

Individuals working as Patient Care Technicians at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Technicians roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Technician position.
