The Opportunity

The Patient Accounts Coordinator functions under the general supervision of the department manager. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate submission of all patient balances and bills within the Epic. The coordinator works closely with management and other units within the billing department to identify, correct, and resolve workflow issues as well as ensure all responsibilities and submitted claims are complete.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure departmental goals are met through effective review and understanding of Epic and reporting to drive day to day priorities and decisions
  • Delegate duties, tasks, and responsibilities effectively to PBS Reps.
  • Coordinating the follow up work for the PBS WQ/Research Team ensuring HB research, patient call backs, PB and HB Return WQs,
  • Assist the supervisors/Managers with all training on WQs, correspondence functions
  • Organize and coordinate department workflows
  • Distribute daily work to ensure goals are met as established by the unit
  • Assist management in handling complex issues and work to resolve issues, particularly as it relates to timely filing issues
  • Understand and monitor all daily claim files using Epic, Xclaim, and other reporting tools
  • Perform root cause analysis and translate day to day issues into specific and actionable resolution steps
  • Assist in the research, review, and analysis to raise and report problems as necessary
  • Attend required meetings with Management to discuss issues
  • Assist in training and education of staff
  • Adhere to the organization's HIPAA Privacy guidelines
  • Performs other duties, tasks, or projects as assigned


Qualifications
Skills, Abilities and Competencies
  • Familiarity with Insurance terminology and language is required
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Expert knowledge of hospital billing required
  • Attention to detail a must
  • Ability to multi-task required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks having complex procedural steps in a timely manner
  • Accurately and productively perform high volume output daily
  • Experience with Epic hospital billing systems is required
  • Ability to perform well in a high volume and fast paced production environment with a high degree of accuracy and productivity.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources
