Residential Programs and Services houses approximately 12,000 students predominately first year students in 14 traditional residence halls. Job Summary
RPS is recruiting center desk staff for positions starting immediately. Desk staff are normally the first point of contact for residents, parents and others who need to conduct business at the residence center. This contact can be done in person, by phone or by email. Staff respond to what they can and escalate what they cannot. Most offices will be using Microsoft Teams to keep track of schedules and office updates.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Communicates in a clear and appropriate manner with all residents, staff, and guests.
- Utilizes desk procedures and documentation as needed to address questions.
- Answers center desk phone, responds to inquires, and directs calls to appropriate office if unable to answer questions.
- Uses provided computer to respond to emails, enter work orders, and log in and out packages.
- Participates in training and development sessions as determined by the department.
- May handle packages and mail, maintenance and pest control issues, and questions from residents and parents when working during normal business hours.
- May utilize the hand-held radio / walkie-talkies to communicate within the center.
- May have the opportunity to stay late to work the desk during break closings or return early from break to assist in re-opening.
- Additional tasks may be assigned by the supervisor. Individual center desks might have other duties specific to their community needs.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required- General knowledge at the high school level.

- Highly thorough and dependable.
Working Conditions / DemandsThe person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Ability to move up to 20 pounds may be required for mail/packages processing.
Offices will require availability to work some weekends and evenings.

This role is for the entire academic year (through May 2023).

Work HoursFlexible work schedule that is typically set for the semester.
Most offices schedule desk staff between 6-20 hours a week based on availability.
Scheduled desk shifts can be any time within the listed office hours below and are based on staff availability and office need.
Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Saturday - Sunday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.
Occasionally, there are opportunities to work extra hours; not to exceed 29 hours in one week.
