Orientation Team Member

Multiple Openings, Multiple Campuses

Position Type: Temporary, Part Time

Salary: $14.80 per hour

Motlow State is located in the beautiful rolling hills of middle Tennessee and has four campuses that serve students from eleven counties. Motlow positions are contingent upon funding availability and budget approval.

General Function:

Orientation Leaders implement the Orientation program as well as provide a source of support for new first-year and transfer students. They work with small groups and guide them through the orientation process at Motlow State Community College.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of 24 semester credit hours of post-secondary education at a regionally accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:

Currently enrolled students of Motlow State Community College with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum of 24 earned credits.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a representative of the college to incoming students
  • Create a positive and inviting environment to enhance the new student orientation experience for students and families by welcoming them to campus.
  • Assist with the operations of new student orientation as designated by orientation supervisor
  • Guide students and families to various locations/workshops on campus and provide campus tours to students and families creating familiarity with the campus location.
  • Assist students in registering for classes, parking tags, or other campus resources
  • Assist with presentation of materials for new student orientation
  • Serve as a leader of a team of incoming students during new student orientation
  • Advise students based on recommended courses provided by the campus advisement team.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of community colleges
  • Knowledge of Motlow State campus resources and services
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to relate effectively to people of varied academic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds using tact, diplomacy, and courtesy
  • Ability to assist new students in having a successful start at Motlow State Community College
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with students, colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices and the ability to effectively apply them in the higher education environment.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality statutes and policies as they apply to FERPA
