Position: The Department of Speech and Hearing Science (http://shs.illinois.edu) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position in medical speech-language pathology. Preferred research areas include, but are not limited to voice disorders, dysphagia, motor speech disorders, aphasia, or traumatic brain injury. The position offers numerous opportunities to engage in basic, clinical, and translational research through interdisciplinary programs and institutes. Research may span all areas of speech and language science. The position is available August 16, 2023.

Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field by the start date with the potential to develop a funded research program. Qualified candidates at an associate/full professor rank must have a record of external funding, a demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring, and the potential to collaborate with faculty through existing campus programs and initiatives.

Responsibilities: Successful applicants will conduct and publish research; seek external funding to support research activities; mentor students; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders; advise students in conducting research; participate in professional activities and public engagement; and contribute to the missions of the department, college, and university.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Academic Environment: Speech and Hearing Science is a highly collegial and collaborative department, situated in the College of Applied Health Sciences (AHS) on the main campus of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and includes (a) the recently renovated Speech and Hearing Science building that houses academic, laboratory, and collaborative spaces; (b) the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Clinic; and (c) the "Collaboration Lab" that houses clinical faculty offices, a classroom, multiple study spaces for clinical audiology and speech-language pathology graduate students, private spaces for telepractice, clinical tests, and materials. Our department offers an undergraduate degree and three graduate degrees-M.A., Au.D., and Ph.D. Its mission is to engage in research, education, and outreach activities that enhance communication across the lifespan, integrating research and clinical applications from the biological, behavioral, and social sciences. Departmental activities contribute to the mission of the College, specifically, the advancement of research, instruction and public engagement that promotes the development of healthy, livable communities, facilitates optimal living with disability and promotes health and wellness across the lifespan and throughout a diverse society. Our faculty are committed to advancing diversity in professional practice and the professorate.

The College houses two interdisciplinary research centers, the Center on Health, Aging, and Disability and the Chez Veterans Center , in addition to the Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services . The College is central to an ongoing campus expansion in health technology research. Our faculty are active in interdisciplinary collaborations with colleagues in the Colleges of Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Engineering, the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology , the Neuroscience Program , the Cancer Community at Illinois , Carle Foundation Hospital , and Carle Auditory Oral School . Beckman's Biomedical Imaging Center supports new 7T human and 9.4T small animal magnetic resonance imaging systems. In 2015, the Carle Illinois College of Medicine was established, the first college of medicine specifically designed at the intersection of engineering and medicine. Faculty are also supported by the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Institute that organizes campus efforts to address pressing health challenges and provides support for the core infrastructure essential to the health sciences.
