Description:

The CJRI Orthopedic Technician/Nursing Assistant functions in a supportive role for the healthcare team and facilitates activities under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse providing both direct and indirect patient care. The CJRI Orthopedic Technician/Nursing Assistant collects and reports patient information and data as directed, helps assigned patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, elimination, skin care, bathing, dressing and positioning, transfers, mobility and ambulation. Frequent ambulation is a very crucial aspect of the CJRI patient experience that improves transition from acute to post-acute care, length of stay, patient confidence and decreases incidence of postoperative complications. The CJRI Orthopedic Technician/Nursing Assistant regularly mobilizes patient beginning in the immediate postoperative period, provides stair training and supplements the pertinent exercises determined by PT provider. The CJRI Orthopedic Technician/Nursing Assistant performs additional selected tasks, such as collection of specimens, distribution of linen and supplies to patient rooms, set up of post-operative rooms, patient transport and patient discharge to POV.

Work Hours/Shift:
  • Full-Time, 36 hours - day shift into evening shift (12 hour shifts 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.) must work every other weekend and holiday as scheduled

You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Exceptional Patient Care: Contributes to overall quality of nursing care through performance improvement techniques that impact patient care positively.
  • Excellent Communicator: Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with admin, colleagues, patients and family member.
  • Strong Educator: Educate patients and family members so that they have a transparent understanding of the care being provided.
  • Technical Familiarity: Understanding in computer-based applications (E-MAR, clinical documentation), email, and standard applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Active Teamwork: Demonstrates problem solving, conflict resolution, and positive communication through teamwork.

Requirements:
  • Education: Must possess a minimum of a high school diploma/GED. A graduate of an approved Nurse Aide Training Program
  • Certification: Current Connecticut Nurse Aide Registry certification required. BLS certification required
  • Ability to pass drug screenings and background checks

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience: Previous experience as a Orthopedic Tech/Nursing Assistant in an acute care setting preferred. Ability to read, write and speak English and do simple math problems. Experience using a computer highly desirable.
