Responsibilities

The Nurse Specialist is a registered nurse prepared at the bachelors, masters or doctoral level with clinical expertise in evidence-based nursing practice within a specialty area. The Nurse Specialist treats and manages the health concerns of patients and populations and integrates knowledge of disease and medical treatments into assessment, diagnosis and treatment of illness. Provides leadership for the advancement of the practice of nursing and collaborative practice with the multi-disciplinary care team to achieve quality and cost-effective patient outcomes. The Nurse Specialist practices in three spheres of influence: patient/client, nurses and nursing practice and organization/system.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

• Bachelors of Science in Nursing and currently enrolled in a CNS program, with less than 12 months to CNS program completion.

Experience

• Relevant Experience

Certification and Licensure

• Plan to obtain population-level credentialing as a CNS through the ANCC or the AACN
