Job Description:


Positions in Music are open to freshmen and above.


We work in a team atmosphere. All students work as office assistants and event staff. Concerts will be marketed and staffed by student teams.


(1) POSITION: Office Assistant/Event Staff (a, b, c)


Duties: Greet students and prospective students that enter the reception area. Operate copy machine, prepare music for cataloguing and maintain sheet music libraries, upload recordings on Blackboard, maintain recording archives, check mail, answer ticket phone line, prepare marketing media and distribute, help with festival preparation and work concerts as event staff.


  • (a) POSITION: Stage Manager
    • Duties: Make sure the stage of Douwstra, Recital Hall or Chapel is set for recitals and concerts; move equipment on and off stage and make sure chairs and stands are set up as needed, turn on fan, open "Green Room" downstairs (get key from Debbie), lock after concert, place sign in front of stage door (Do not enter; performance in progress), be in hall 45 minutes before the event begins, then check with director or performer for last minute instructions. [Duties are clearly outlined in the Music Work Study Handbook.]
  • (b) POSITION: Recording Technicians
    • Duties: Record concerts and recitals. Using inhouse digital recording equipment. [Duties are clearly outlined in the Music Work Study Handbook.]
  • (c) POSITION: Head Usher
    • Duties: Oversee ushers. Arrive one hour before concert starts. Pick up programs backstage Douwstra and distribute to the auditorium and balcony doors. Help handicap, disabled and elderly patrons to their seats [Duties are clearly outlined in the Music Work Study Handbook.]

(2) POSITION: Ensemble Manager


Requirements: Knowledge of music necessary. Example: band person work with Symphonic Wind Ensemble director; vocal person work with A Cappella Choir director; string person work with Orchestra director, etc. Students assist with getting music out to members of ensemble (A Cappella Choir, SWE, CC Orchestra, Jazz Band, CC Chorus, Flying Pans, etc.), take attendance for director, sort and file music, set up rehearsal room for rehearsals and concerts. Check with ensemble directors for specific job responsibilities.



(3) POSITION: Student Festival Coordinator


Requirements: Knowledge of music and basic computer skills necessary. Oversee festivals, which include Bandfest, Singfest, Stringfest, and Jazzmania. Enter information received from schools on database. Make sure the festival runs smoothly- post signs; help directors as needed, direct students to rehearsal locations, lunch, sectional rehearsals, etc. [Hard copy of responsibilities are available upon request.]



(4) POSITION: Marketing Coordinator


Requirements: Ability to work independently and be flexible is imperative.


Duties: Create and coordinate campaigns with Marketing Creative Director and Social Media Specialist


Ensembles we create for: A Cappella Choir, College-Community Chorus, College-Community Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.


(Combos, Percussion Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, and Flying Pans marketing is to be created by ensemble members and on their own time. Branding guidelines are to be adhered to and communicated on where the resource is located for ensemble members to use. Music Marketing Coordinator will communicate the four week deadline to post. Music Office Assistants will post their media as long as it is ready on the posting date. If a deadline is missed the ensemble director is on their own to post on campus and around the community.


Communicate with Central Communications any questions you may have on branding and campaign ideas.


Document campaigns and submit plan to Music Office Manager, Department Chair and Ensemble director for approval.


Create deadlines, Communicate branding guidelines to Office Assistants, Assign projects to Office Assistants,


Print draft poster/flyer copies for approval to directors, Print posters/flyers and list of poster places, Assign Office Assistants to post media around campus and community.


I need you to take it upon yourself to monitor quality control, (it need only take at max two shifts to design, template has been uploaded to the Google Drive) print the posters and delegate who will post.



(5) POSITION: Marketing Creative Director


Requirements: Ability to work independently and be flexible is imperative. Adhere to deadlines. Think of campaigns for marketing of concerts that will have the most exposure.

Duties: Create and coordinate campaigns with Marketing Coordinator and Social Media Specialist. Ensembles we create for: A Cappella Choir, College-Community Chorus, College-Community Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. Communicate with Central Communications any questions you may have on branding and campaigns.

Enter concert information into Internet websites, Maintain Twitter and Facebook accounts,


Create deadlines for material to be submitted for posting on social media. Create PowerPoint for Maytag Student Center screens based on guidelines created by CAB & Student Life. Create PDFs, and JPEGs from marketing media created by Office Assistants.



(7) POSITION: Program Coordinator


Ability to work independently, be highly organized and flexible is imperative.


Goal is to be constantly reminding directors and OA's of deadlines.


Duties:


Ensembles we create programs for: A Cappella Choir, College-Community Chorus, College-Community Orchestra, Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band.


Consult with the Office Manager the template needed for each concert program. Many programs can be constructed from a previous concert to save time.


Create individualized Program Construction Templates for each director. Advocate that they use the form to communicate what is needed for each program.


Create timelines and communicate reminders to directors of content that is needed.



Requirements:


Must be a current Central student that has been awarded work study by financial aid.


Pre-employment paperwork must be on file with the Financial Aid Office before employment begins.
