Job Title: Multi-Craft Form Carpenter/Concrete Finisher

Department: Operations

Reports To: General Superintendent/Project Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary:

At Cherokee Millwright, we are a multi-craft company that focuses on the needs of our customers by providing multi-trades personnel to meet the customer's unique job requests. Therefore, all field employees will be cross-trained in various trades such as millwrighting, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal, civil, etc. The focus of this position will be to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, conforming to local building codes. Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete structures, using hand tools or power tools including floats, trowels, and screeds. Operate Skid steer, backhoes and mini excavators. Perform construction duties in Heavy Commercial and Industrial environments. However, it will not be entirely set to this specific skillset.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
  • Prepares layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
  • Erects framework for structures.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Works within precise standards of accuracy.
  • Rates information using standards which can be measured or checked.
  • Reviews and compares differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.
  • Follow directions, plans, and blueprints.
  • Perform work from scaffolding, ladders or other structures.
  • Perform work overhead, beneath structure, and from various other positions as required by working conditions.
  • Detects, recognizes and responds to dangerous conditions or situations.
  • Spreads concrete to specified depth and workable consistency, using float to bring water to surface and produce soft topping.
  • Levels, smooths, and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete, using straightedge and float or power screed.
  • Finishes concrete surfaces, using power trowel, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
  • Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, using power grinder or chisel and hammer, and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
  • Molds expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
  • Produce rough concrete surface, using broom.
  • Mix cement, using hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
  • Direct sub grade work, mixing of concrete, and setting of forms.
  • Follow set procedures and standards.
  • Rate information using standards that can be measured or checked.
  • Detect, recognize and respond to dangerous conditions or situations.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Significant travel required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
