Moderator / Qualitative Consultant - B2B Tech (location flexible)

Our Tech practice is particularly adept at evaluating evolving trends in the B2B and consumer space, pulling strategic insights that are relevant for technical audiences and helping our clients figure out what's next and what they can do about it. We leverage a range of methodologies for primary (both qualitative and quantitative) and secondary research, along with analytics of internal data, all of which is designed to help our clients get a leg up.

Over the past couple of years, the demand for qualitative solutions from our technology clients has been steadily increasing and we are continuing to invest in growing this team by adding a Moderator/Qualitative consultant.

Who are you?

  • You're a qualitative consultant and moderator who's comfortable with the nuances of research involving B2B technology development topics (Cloud, IoT, AI/ML, Software Development, Enterprise Data Centers).
  • You are capable of leading end-to-end research projects for our Tech practice focused on enterprise IT and software development.
  • While you are not expected to be an IT practitioner or coder, you stay current with advances in these fields.
  • You've applied your moderating talents in the B2B tech, software/application developer, or FinTech industry for 1 - 3 years minimum, and are at the point where clients specifically request you to moderate their projects.
  • You are able to synthesize findings, develop a story, visualize insights, and present results.

Or
  • You are an analyst, consultant or journalist w/ deep focus on B2B IT and software development.
  • While you may not have formal training as a qualitative researcher, you do have experience conducting structured interviews and discussions with sources to gather information.
  • While you are not expected to be an IT practitioner or coder, you stay current with advances in these fields.
  • You are able to synthesize findings, develop a story, visualize insights, and present results.

What would you do?

A majority of our qualitative work involves engaging with developers and tech business decision-makers to understand their evolving needs. While this position is focused on the tech space, you may occasionally have the opportunity to support clients across other industries as well, including Automotive, Financial Services, Consumer & Retail, and Energy.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and collaborate with other SMEs during the research design process, including project specifications, pricing, creation of screener and discussion guides, research methodology, and analysis planning.
  • Moderate research effectively across multiple modes and technologies (1:1s, dyads/triads, focus groups), both in person and via web-based platforms.
  • Independently learn new technology areas and confidently converse in industry and developer vernacular.
  • Quickly establish rapport with clients and research participants.
  • Maintain composure and empathy while exploring topics, and tactfully keep interviews moving forward.
  • Organize and oversee fast-moving global projects with lots of moving parts.
  • Author and deliver storytelling narratives, interactive workshops, video documentaries and more to imbed insight and guidance into client teams.
  • Partner with our client management teams to create proposal and business-development-oriented content.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, point-of-view pieces and our award-winning blog (escalent.co/thinking/blog)

Qualifications
  • Have a Bachelor degree in a related field (e.g., market research, psychology, anthropology, sociology, or other related field). An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience working in the Tech sector as a qualitative researcher, analyst, consultant, or journalist.
  • Must be a quick study and creative problem solver.
  • Excellent written, visual and oral communications.
  • Passionate about understanding markets, end user needs, business needs, and making recommendations about how to improve and grow.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and periodic overtime to accommodate project requirements
  • Able to multi-task and manage several projects and clients simultaneously
  • NOTE: This position may require heavy travel or extreme flexibility to work outside of typical business hours.
