Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Complies with established job safety practices, policies, and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for safe performance of the work assignment.
  2. Supports and follows the guidelines of the food safety system.
  3. Troubleshoots, repairs, install, erects, moves, and/or dismantles all types of machinery and auxiliary production equipment.
  4. Inspects job site and equipment to be dismantled, erected or moved; analyzes blueprints and schematics; estimates weight of loads to be handled, lifted, clearances, and recommends support equipment needed.
  5. Selects and transports tools, machinery, and materials needed for assignment.
  6. Fabricates sheet metal and structural units (guarding, steps, stairs, conveyors, elevators, platforms) as needed. Sets units in place.
  7. Splices ropes and cables as required.
  8. Performs preventative maintenance for building and grounds as necessary.
  9. Repairs and maintains all assigned machines and equipment including preventative maintenance.
  10. Performs organizational duties including maintaining an organized and clean work area.
  11. Communicates pertinent information to next shift.
  12. Performs clean-up, painting, and housekeeping duties.
  13. Initiates, reviews, and follows all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility.
  14. Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the division, the group, and the company. Includes ability to handle stress and to interact with others so as to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts.
  15. Required to work assigned schedule or 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights, Monday through Sunday, working hours may vary as specified by management. Incumbent must be able to work overtime on a regular basis and/or be on call as directed by management.
  16. Regular and predictable attendance is required between the assigned start and end times of work.
  17. Performs duties without posing a direct threat to anyone or to property. Direct threat is defined as a significant risk of substantial harm that cannot be eliminated or reduced to an acceptable level by reasonable accommodation.
  18. Communication. Ability to communicate effectively, write effectively, read, comprehend, and follow complicated verbal and written instructions.
  19. Assures and maintains safe and healthful working conditions while enforcing safety rules and regulations.
  20. Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
  21. Ability to meet the knowledge, skills, abilities, physical requirements, and working conditions set forth in these essential functions and responsibilities and on the attached Physical Demands Assessment.
  22. Must follow company policies, procedures, practices, and standards of conduct as outlined in the Ball Metalpack manuals.
  23. Maintains an awareness and complies with hazardous waste management and other environmental management requirements in the workplace by attending scheduled training sessions.
  24. Communicates with the emergency coordinator (EC) or Environmental Focal Point/Environmental Manager (EFP/EM) regarding environmental management activities.
  25. Understands and responds effectively to EC directions during emergencies by being familiar with emergency procedures, equipment, and systems, as necessary. Implements contingency plan to the level required by the position.
  26. Understands, completes, and maintains environmental documentation for which the individual is trained, or as directed by the EC, EFP, or EM (i.e., inspections, labeling, record keeping, maintenance of equipment, etc.). Reports to the EC, EFP or EM on the status of assigned responsibilities.
  27. Recognizes waste streams and minimizes waste generation, through prudent use of materials, proper disposal and segregation as directed during training or by the EC, EFP/EM. Understands and practices proper accumulation and storage requirements for wastes.
  28. Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.
  29. Proficient in following areas: metallurgy, heat treatment, welding, brazing, bending, shearing, drilling and all assigned equipment.
  30. Thorough understanding of the operating principles of all assigned equipment.
  31. Required on-the-job and classroom training.
  32. Possesses general carpentry skills.
  33. Ability to use hand and power tools.
  34. Ability to effectively instruct and train other employees.
  35. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  36. Ability to read blueprints.
  37. Must be able to organize, plan, and prioritize.
  38. Ability to meet deadlines and to concentrate and pay attention to detail.
  39. Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.
  40. Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  41. Customer Focus.   44. Works in a manufacturing environment.
  45. This position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.
  46. Must wear appropriate safety glasses, hearing protection, clothing, and footwear in appropriate areas and follow safety practices.
  47. Climbs and works in high, narrow places to place rigging, hoists, chain falls, scaffolds, jacks, skids, and rollers.
  48. Must possess own tools.
  49. Works in confined area(s).
  50. This position regularly requires a high degree of mental effort due to considerable interruptions and/or frequent changes of activity or workloads during a typical working day.

  • Broad training in a related field usually acquired through high school education, General Education Development (GED), or through equivalent work experience
