Job Summary

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking applications for our Research Medical Technologist position. This position will report to the Clinical Operations Manager and will assist in carrying out multiple clinical studies concurrently as well as laboratory testing on multiple platforms.

This position is a great opportunity for a dynamic individual who is looking to interact with co-workers on multiple research projects in a fast paced environment. This role might be right for you if you have experience doing Clinical lab testing on multiple platforms in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology or Molecular and are eager to expand your knowledge of research, and have impeccable interpersonal and organizational skills.

The Research Medical Technologist will assist the Clinical Research group to initiate, conduct, complete, and record clinical studies/trails. The primary role of this position is to record, test and result data on research samples from subjects for multiple clinical studies that the research group in involved with. We are looking for a candidate that is a certified Medical Technologist with two or more years of experience working in a Clinical Laboratory as a bench technologist.

Fundamental Responsibilities:

  • Provides training and guidance to technicians
  • Performs exams using proper equipment as ordered by providers
  • Checks to be sure all reports are filed promptly and sent to ordering providers for review
  • Makes sure charges are entered correctly by checking order list or by entering data into EMR for outside providers, so patients will be billed properly
  • Sends test results to qualified provider for analysis
  • Monitors equipment and performs regular maintenance and inspections as needed
  • Ensures equipment is repaired and is in good working order
Other duties and responsibility will include:
  • Participate in the initiation; sample collection and data collection, shipment preparation, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex clinical studies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Good Clinical Practices (GCP).
  • Identify, collect, and de-identify, enroll, aliquot and process samples for clinical research studies. Samples may include blood, sputum, stool, urine, throat swabs, wound swabs, urogenital and body fluids.
  • Completing informed consent of patients.
  • Study specific data entry in to industry Electronic Data Capture (EDC) systems.
  • Document and account for all incoming samples and materials.
  • Transport materials and samples to and from both IU Research sites as well as collection sites.
  • Ensuring proper communication and compliance with internal and external parties.
  • Other applicable duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school associated with a technician specialty
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of experience in a technician specialty
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required
  • Technician related specialty May require associated state technical certification Upon Hire

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
