As a Mech Engineer, you must utilize creativity and sound technical judgement in the definition of medical capital equipment components, to enable a next level of structural and thermal integration of key robotic payloads. You will contribute architectural interfaces for various vital systems, including but not limited to core computing, robotic manipulators, user-facing displays, medical gas distribution. You will describe the multi-domain physical and technical issues underlying the design optimization, and address the design process accordingly. You will be responsible for communicating with suppliers and manufacturing to build high-quality hardware prototypes. You will be trusted to allocate your time and efforts to make sound decisions, when faced with time constraints and ambiguous or incomplete information.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Developing electro-mechanical assemblies, with careful consideration for key functions and safety.
  • Designing components and producing mechanical drawings in a government regulated environment.
  • Working within multi-disciplinary teams to define requirements for new and current designs.
  • Rapid development and iteration of full-scale prototypes of candidate architectures.
  • Developing and performing component verification testing and product validation testing.
  • Supporting final products delivery by troubleshooting process and component issues.
  • Exchanging design documentation and requirements/specifications with suppliers and vendors.
  • Providing engineering support to Manufacturing and Test Engineering, to facilitate transfer of designs.

Key Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

Required:

  • Minimum BSME or similar, with minimum  2 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience with CAD, analysis, and finite element simulation tools (structural and/or thermal).
  • Experience designing assemblies and components for systems with multiple constraint and requirements (cost, manufacturability, structural, thermal, packaging, industrial design, user-experience).
  • Self-driven with the ability to excel in a high-energy, small, focused team environment, to maintain a strong sense of shared responsibility and reward, and to make work fun and interesting.

Preferred:

  • Post-graduate study or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Experience with systems for medical gas distribution.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing, design for assembly and design for reliability.
  • Comfortable working across several phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer.
  • Mechatronic design experience. Surgical or medical device product experience is a plus.
  • Effective collaboration with multi-disciplinary functions like clinical, human factors, industrial design, interaction design, etc.
  • SolidWorks and Windchill experience.
