Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an Engineering Technician/Inspector. Work may be performed in a laboratory setting or may be performed on a jobsite away from the office, under a variety of environmental and climatic conditions, and on occasion for extended periods of time.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Conduct tests in the field or laboratory to obtain data for use by engineering and scientific personnel in determining engineering, environmental, or physical properties of soil, bedrock, construction materials, air, and aquatic ecosystems
  • Perform laboratory and field tests according to prescribed procedures, processes, and standards for soil, concrete, and asphalt
  • Calculate test results
  • Gathers and maintains data records
  • Collect soil, concrete, and asphalt samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports
  • Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare analyses, reports, and/or technical drawings
  • Enter test results into a computer
  • Works closely with other technicians
  • Interact with the client personnel
  • Fulltime work expected 40+ hours per week, not including travel time


Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications :
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Combination of technical education or certification
  • Understanding of applicable scientific methods and technical methodologies
  • Ability to use test equipment in an effective and safe manner
  • Ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders
  • Ability to prepare reports and documentation
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to follow instruction

Physical Requirements :
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required
  • Will be standing and up on their feet most of the day
  • Will require some walking over uneven terrain and hard surfaces such as roadways
  • May require some work at night

License / Certification Requirements :
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass Health and Safety Training and Defensive Driving Courses upon hire
  • Certifications will be required for these positions; Recommended that the candidate have current concrete (ACI), and nuclear density gauge certifications
