Department

HUM Staff: MAPH Administration

About the Department

The Master of Arts Program in the Humanities (MAPH) at the University of Chicago is a rigorous, one-year graduate program that allows students to focus within a specific academic discipline-such as Art History or English-or to explore their interdisciplinary interests. Our students refine their intellectual ideas throughout the year, a process which for most culminates in a master's thesis supervised by a University of Chicago faculty member. MAPH is excellent preparation for students who wish to continue their studies in a PhD program, enter a new professional field, or return to their current career with more developed writing and research skills.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director and Manager of Student Affairs in MAPH, the Program Mentor supports the academic work of the students in our one- or two-year program through mentoring and advising; supports recruitment through individual communication with prospective students and through social media channels; supports and designs supplemental educational, career development, and social events.

The MAPH community is collaborative and enthusiastic, and our success depends on the excellent work of our mentors. Together with the rest of the MAPH staff and preceptors, our mentors actively engage with and help approximately one hundred new graduate students.

This is a one-year position starting July 1 through June 30 of the following year, with the possibility of renewal for one additional year depending on performance, budget, and operational need. If the position is not renewed, severance is not an option.
