Job Summary

This position oversees the lending, re-shelving, withdrawal, and auditing of materials from Mansueto Library, as well as retrieval and scanning of Mansueto materials for document delivery and scan on demand services, and assisting interlibrary loan in filling requests. This person is also responsible for answering patron questions relating to Mansueto and serving as a resource for other questions relating to other Library services. During their shift, this person is the supervisor in charge of the Mansueto Library, oversees building security, and enforces policies for maintaining a scholarly environment in the Grand Reading Room.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all circulation desk responsibilities as needed including auditing storing, scans, picks, and withdrawal of items.
  • Processes items through the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), completing basic troubleshooting of mechanical and software issues when they arise.
  • Enforces policies for maintaining a scholarly environment in the Grand Reading Room.
  • Prepares and fulfills scan & deliver and ILL scanning requests.
  • Attends to patrons with special problems or complaints; attempts to resolve these problems as appropriate or refers patrons' concerns to the Head of Mansueto Circulation.
  • Provides supervisory coverage for Regenstein Circulation on an as needed basis due to staffing absences/vacancies.
  • Answers inquiries concerning overdue books, recalls, reserve problems, and fines in person, over the phone, and via online ticketing.
  • Opens or closes the building. Handles general inquires relating to building and security while on duty. Provides initial response to emergencies.
  • Responsible for answering patron questions related to Access Services and serves as a resource for other questions related to other Library services.
  • Distributes work to and monitors the work done for Student Counter Attendants; troubleshoots equipment as needed.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree.

Experience:
  • Work experience in a library or equivalent environment.
  • Previous experience directing or supervising the work of others.
  • Significant customer service experience.
  • Experience with MS Office, email, and internet work applications.

Working Conditions
  • The scheduled hours for this position during the regular academic year are: Thursday (8:00 pm - 12:00 am), Friday (3:00 pm - 11:00 pm), Saturday (3:00 pm - 11:00 pm), and Sunday (8:00 pm - 12:00 am).Hours are subject to change during interim periods and based on Library needs. This position covers all circulation shifts as assigned. Responsible for occasionally flexing the work schedule to cover other shifts as necessary in case of illness, vacation, or absences of other supervisors.
