The Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health is seeking applications for a Manager, Sensory and Consumer Research Center - Olathe Campus.

The Sensory and Consumer Research Center is part of the Sensory Program at Kansas State University in the Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health. The Sensory and Consumer Research Center is an internationally recognized research institute skilled in consulting, project management, method development, educational sensory and consumer research. For nearly 40 years, the Sensory and Consumer Research Center has provided confidential, effective solutions for more than 100 domestic and international companies. We have experience evaluating foods, beverages, cosmetics, personal care products and fragrances as well as the flexibility of a wide range of methodologies. This position is ideal for an entrepreneurial-oriented professional with industry experience to help further develop consumer-based research and University-Sensory industry partnerships. The Center is an integral part of the mission of the Olathe Campus related to Food Safety and Security, and Animal Health. The individual will report to the Program Director.

This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day acquisition, management, and implementation of contract consumer research studies. Other expectations for this position may include helping in developing workshop series, assisting with descriptive studies, and supervising students and part-time staff in conducting research studies. This individual will collaborate with Olathe staff responsible for K-12 relationships in the local community and conduct studies suited to the Olathe/Greater Kansas City area and in partnership with other research agencies nationally and internationally.

Specifically, as a Manager of the Sensory and Consumer Research Center, the individual will:

  1. Develop and implement the goals, objectives, and activities of the K-State Olathe Sensory and Consumer Research Center as part of the Sensory Academic Program at K-State. Develop professional contacts, communicate with clients, write proposals, conduct research studies, analyze data, report results, and manage the day-to-day operation of the Sensory and Consumer Research Center. Supervise and train staff supporting the day-to-day operation of the Sensory and Consumer Research Center and study execution. Work in collaboration with Sensory faculty to develop and implement common strategies for the good of the Sensory program and its students. Prepare and give presentations for companies and local and professional organizations. Plan and teach workshops and develop community outreach programs. Perform additional functions, as assigned

To be Successful You Will Need:

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

* M.S. with an emphasis in sensory analysis, consumer research, or closely related field
* Experience conducting sensory studies using quantitative and qualitative consumer research methodologies
* Basic training in statistics, including knowledge of data collection and statistical analysis programs, including Compusense, XLSTAT, SAS, etc.
* Five years of industry experience in project management of sensory analysis, consumer research, or market research
* Experience working with trained descriptive panelists
* Ability to train and mentor staff and students
* Ability to manage and grow a business model that is a blend of academics and private enterprise

Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,000 - $90, 000/yr
