Position Summary

Responsible for the development, analysis and implementation of provider effort and compensation plans in support of GW MFA eligible employees. This role will oversee all aspects of physician and APP performance-based compensation programs, ensuring that all physicians and APP's are paid accurately and timely. Works closely with clinical and administrative leaders, to establish accurate information relative to faculty effort, funding sources, compensation, and performance targets. Plays a lead role in the optimization and/or implementation of new programs to align compensation and performance. Develops, reviews, documents, and implements standard policies, procedures and processes across the medical practice. Oversees financial analysis and other related analytical and review activities to effective and accurate physician and APP compensation programs. Reviews and approves all provider compensation plans and targets for new hires to ensure compliance with GW Medical Faculty Associates guidelines and current regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Manages the provider compensation process at GW Medical Faculty Associates, including developing, implementing, and maintaining all provider compensation plans, policies, and related documents and databases.
  • Assists FP & A team to perform provider compensation and other financial operations analytics, ensuring that analytics and deliverables are accurate and meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements tools to support provider performance and compensation plans, including effort allocation, and processes to support leaders and managers within their respective divisions/departments.
  • Manages education and tools for operational leaders and assists in communicating provider compensation components.
  • Assembles and reviews all provider compensation variables for new hires and existing participants in the Compensation Plans to ensure compliance with GW Medical Faculty Associates guidelines.
  • Oversees the quarterly scorecard provider compensation reconciliation and annual compensation benchmark updates. Also provides updates on an as-needed basis to ensure data is current.
  • In conjunction with Department Executive Leadership, manages oversight of provider compensation agreements, including tracking upcoming provider pay adjustments and notifying MFA leadership of remediation needs.
  • Oversees calculation of Provider earned bonuses or penalties in accordance with the Compensation Plan milestones and communicates those results to affected Providers and MFA Leadership. Verifies with Department Leadership that results are implemented within the payroll system.
  • Provides analytical support to GW MFA Provider Compensation leadership teams and works with outside organizations as needed. Responsible for ensuring approved leadership changes are communicated to downstream systems and departments.
  • Provides analytical support to monthly incentive accruals, RVU reporting, projections and annual budget process as it relates to physician and APP compensation. Provides incentive and other accrual information for preparation of monthly journal entries.
  • Participates in the implementation of new systems & databases relating to physician and APP effort allocation, productivity and compensation.
Qualifications

Education
  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or a related field, is required.
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible work experience analyzing, modeling, and evaluating physician compensation programs through the use of Excel and other computerized analytical tools.
  • Prior experience conducting compensation analysis and benchmark comparisons using national and regional compensation surveys
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a large, complex medical group practice or other business equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience, including leading and managing a physician compensation group either exclusively or as part of another management position
