Job Summary:

The Manager of Enrollment Success Initiatives at Southern Methodist University (SMU), will manage efforts in the Division of Enrollment Services (DES) to improve enrollment processes, programs, and priorities based on initiatives from the Provost's Office. These aim to increase measures of student success and administrative efficiency. The role will focus particular attention on retention and graduation of low-income and traditionally underrepresented students. The Manager will identify opportunities to coordinate curricular, advising, financial, records and other enrollment processes across academic divisions and units. This key position will lead assessment of enrollment departments, policies, and practices, and will coordinate the implementation of new academic initiatives with enrollment stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage implementation of new student academic success initiatives across the Division of Enrollment Services (DES); work closely with the Student Academic Engagement & Success (SAES), Curricular Innovation & Policy, and SMU's 8 academic units to ensure a student focus in SMU's enrollment practices and processes; coordinate closely with the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and DES directors.
  • Evaluate the scale and scope of implementation for new academic initiatives across DES, and when appropriate, in SAES and across Academic Affairs more broadly.
  • Develop and manage method to prioritize new initiatives aimed at helping SMU reach its strategic goals especially as they relate to curricular and enrollment practices.
  • Lead and coordinate regular assessment of core functions throughout DES; provide framework and guidance for identifying opportunities for improvement in these areas that will support the University's strategic goals; report on strategic improvement efforts through the University's established protocol (e.g., WEAVE).
  • Coordinate closely with OIT and other campus resources to align priorities and implementation of enrollment success initiatives.
  • Conduct additional research and lead projects as directed by the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required, Master's degree preferred. Field of study in Communications, STEM fields, or higher education preferred.

A minimum of five years professional work experience is required.

Experience required leading team-based initiatives and projects. Project management experience is highly desired, especially in enrollment or non-for-profit educational setting.

Enrollment services or management experience is a plus.

Experience managing priorities of a complex operation in support of strategic goals is preferred.

Preferred certifications: Project Management certification. Microsoft Office certifications.

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint is required. Familiarity with project management software or desire to learn, is required. Ability to learn new software is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface well with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proven ability to successfully implement new initiatives across multiple units is required.

Knowledge of strategies and initiatives for access, equity and inclusion in higher education is strongly desired.

Candidate must possess strong organizational skills which include effective planning, project management and time management.

Candidate must demonstrate problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills. Creative approaches to highly varied and complex problems may need to be developed.

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

Occasional travel may be required for site visits and collaborations with colleagues at other universities, particularly peer and aspirant institutions. Travel for professional development.
