The Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division (COGMD) consists of a worldwide team helping to power the global energy industry as well as provide power and propulsion on the water.

Caterpillar Oil & Gas currently has an exciting opportunity for a Manager Maintenance in Laurel, Montana. The Manager Maintenance is responsible for ensuring all equipment is operated in an efficient manner at minimal cost and downtime. Promotes safety and environmental awareness. Monitors equipment performance and make pertinent suggestions for changes to operations or maintenance procedures, which will improve plant availability and reliability. Prepares reports and documentation as required. There are multiple shift options available for this role: for the operations side: first shift (7 days a week 6:30am - 6:30pm), second shift (7 days a week 6:30pm - 6:30am), and for the maintenance side: first shift (5 days a week).

Job Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures all safety equipment is utilized and is available in the work areas. Understand and comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all plant operations and maintenance is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and according to safe operating practices.
  • Maintains all equipment histories to effectively report on equipment utilization and efficiency.
  • Coordinate any changes in maintenance intervals and maintenance and major outage activities to ensure maintenance is efficient and minimal downtime is achieved.
  • Provides weekly reports to the Power Plant Manager on on-going projects, availability, fuel consumption, oil consumption, and any other pertinent facts related to the health and efficiency of the plant.
  • Maintains the channels of communication between the appropriate Caterpillar representative and the Owner's designated representative.
  • Ensures that the Owner's personnel are informed of any changes to maintenance practices, operational parameters, or any other changes to pre-established routines.
  • Coaching and mentoring teams in order to encourage, motivate, and guide individuals in learning and improving effectiveness.
  • Creating work plans for staff and contractors; reviewing the maintenance work performed by technicians.
  • Making purchasing decisions and recommendations regarding equipment and tools; training the workers periodically on various maintenance processes and techniques.
  • Monitoring the maintenance budget; identifying cost-effective alternatives for current maintenance activities.
  • Tracking daily inventories, inspecting production units for wear and tear; ensuring replacements are made on time.
What You Have - Skills, Knowledge, & Experiences:
  • Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Working Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.
  • Conflict Management: Extensive Knowledge of managing conflicts; ability to anticipate, recognize, and deal effectively with existing or potential conflicts at the individual, group, or situation level.
  • Problem Solving: Expert Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Project Management: Working Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Operations and Maintenance: Extensive Knowledge of manufacturing equipment and its functioning; ability to conduct Preventive Maintenance at scheduled intervals to determine equipment's corrective actions and avoid untimely breakdowns.
  • Total Productive Maintenance (TPM): Extensive Knowledge of total productive maintenance principles, methods, and processes; ability to maximize machinery effectiveness through active involvement of all supporting departments.
  • Plant Facilities Management: Extensive Knowledge of processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities; ability to handle the full spectrum of activities for managing and maintaining physical facilities and infrastructure.
  • Plant Operation and Maintenance: Extensive Knowledge of plant operation principles, methods and processes; ability to handle day-to-day and strategic issues, operational requirements and management of a manufacturing facility.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Mechanical or electrical background.
  • Experience working in a power plant.

  • Relocation is not available for this position.

  • Position located onsite in Laurel, MT.
