Under the direct supervision of Physician and Practice Manager the Lead Mammography Technologist is responsible for coordinating and directing activities of the professional and support staff engaged in performing diagnostic and mammographic procedures, transporting patients and providing clinical clerical support. The Lead Mammography Technician may require certification to use certain equipment. Supports mammography team in coordinating the day-to-day operational activities not limited to orienting and training staff, including the documentation of competencies, assisting with the scheduling of staff, acting as a resource to staff, responding to questions and assisting with problem resolution. Ensures maintenance of equipment and follow-up, coordinates departmental supply acquisition and utilization while ensuring maintenance of proper stock levels and storage supply.

Essential Job Functions
Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic Bozeman and department/service. Performs all duties of Diagnostic Imaging & Mammography Technologists as required and maintains competency in all areas of the department. Schedules and coordinates appointments in a manner that meets the patient's needs and assists department in the management of patient flow utilizing knowledge of scheduling protocols. Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action. Ensures mammography services provided are in compliance with standards established by the institution, state, local and federal agencies. May assign work to personnel engaged in the day-to-day function taking into consideration priority of work and skills of employee and workflow of the department. Utilizes and implements performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality. Acts as a resource to the Mammography Technologists responding to procedural questions and provides assistance utilizing problem resolution techniques. Participates in and provides feedback into interviewing and performance appraisal processes. Coordinates department orientation for new mammography technologists, provides ongoing training and education for existing staff, and monitors staff annual education requirements. Contributes to the effective management of the department by gathering data regarding personnel, supplies and equipment needs in order to provide input into the development of radiology and mammography policies, procedures, short and long term goals and objectives for departmental planning. Informs Physician and Practice Manager of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians. Demonstrates positive, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with patient, families, visitors, physicians, staff and others. Utilizes good judgment in assistance as deemed appropriate while ensuring all patient/guest needs are met. Communicates with families and guests who are waiting for information on patients in Mammography. Participates in departmental and Billings Clinic Bozeman committees and task forces as assigned. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency safety standards relevant to job performance. Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains adequate inventory of all required supplies.
