As the community center of the University, the Illini Union draws together all members of the University with approximately 16,000 visits of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests on a daily basis. Job Summary
Responsible for providing quality guest service as it pertains to checking in/out of hotel guests; PBX operations to include mail/message service; taking hotel reservations; and tracking services in a gracious and professional manner. Demand accuracy with daily accounting procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reception:
    a. Responsible for reception and registration of guests to the Illini Union Hotel.
    b. Check-in and check-out hotel guests in a confident, professional, and friendly manner.
    c. Issue parking permits to guests, distributes maps when necessary and log parking information, breakfast passes, and ARC passed.
    d. Anticipate guests' needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests.
    e. Scheduling of all hotel reservations.
    f. Responsible for adhering to all cashier responsibilities and procedures, including assurance of cash fund each day, balance out end of shift banks to include verification of all cash, credit card, and check transactions during scheduled shift.
    g. Maintain key check in/out log. Issue keys to authorized staff/students desiring entrance to designated offices in the Illini Union.
    h. Distribute rented parking permits and assist with directions to rented space.
  • Guest Services: a. Provide and record campus refunds as established by campus vending manager. b. Provide fax service for hotel guests, receive funds and record transactions into computer and cash drawer. Provide service for hotel guests for in-office safe deposit box for belongings while checked into the hotel. c. Communicate pertinent guest information to designated departments/personnel (i.e., special requests, amenity delivery).
  • General Knowledge: a. Maintain knowledge of hotel fire and emergency procedures. b. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front desk area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Physical Demands
Position involves in-person work, with most work performed in an office environment, there may be frequent interruptions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work well under pressure due to guest requests and expectations.
  • Handle multiple tasks at once.
Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 0545 - Main Desk Attendant position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/10/2024. This is a bargained position and as such, the salary is driven by the collective bargaining agreement. The entry-level hourly rate for the Main Desk Attendant classification is $16.891/hour. Work for this position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
