Life Science Research Professional 1🔍Stanford, California, United StatesNew📁Research📅8 hours ago Post Date📅103075 Requisition #Roger Kornberg's lab at Stanford is seeking a highly motivated research assistant (Life Science Research Professional 1) to join our team. Your research work will focus on protein expression and purification of the different components of the transcriptional machinery. In this role you will be working closely with scientists who are using structural biology to answer fundamental questions regarding gene expression and chromatin structure. Your duties and responsibilities will include:* Engineering recombinant protein in yeast, E.coli, or insect cell.
* Purification pf proteins at semi-preparative or preparative scale
* Introducing modifications on proteins using different chemistries
* Performing biochemical assays to test protein functionsCandidates should have a background in the biological or chemical sciences and laboratory experience with the following techniques: standard molecular biology techniques including plasmid DNA transformation and propagation, PCR, mutagenesis, and cloning, chromatography, specifically protein-based applications of ion exchange, affinity, and size exclusion chromatography/other size-based separation techniques.*- Other duties may also be assignedThe job duties listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification and are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. * Bachelor's or higher degree in biology, chemistry, or a related scientific field.
* Experience in protein purification techniques including ion exchange, SEC, and affinity tag methods.
* Experience in standard molecular biology techniques.
* Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
* Experience in culturing bacteria and yeasts.
* Experience with laminar flow hoods for culturing insect or mammalian cells. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):Bachelor's degree in related scientific field.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
* General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated performance to use knowledge and skills when needed.
* Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem solve work.
* Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
* General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs, databases, and scientific applications.
* Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
