General Statement of Job:
The Librarian III - Outreach and Instruction is responsible for coordinating and overseeing library outreach to academic departments and to the community. Coordinates the development of content and training in library instruction; develops, promotes, implements, maintains, and evaluates library services for distance education and dual enrollment students and faculty; and oversees library programming and library art gallery activities. Supervises and trains assigned staff.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates the development of content and training in library instruction in accordance with pertinent guidelines.
  2. Coordinates district-wide services to distance learning and dual credit library users to include the creation, evaluation, and deployment of related information products, training of campus librarians in related services, and cultivation of good working relationships with related departments in the college and partner independent school districts involved in distance learning and dual credit.
  3. Oversees and coordinates outreach, library programming and art gallery activities district-wide, including budget development, planning, marketing, and related activities.
  4. Works with the library administrative team to provide progressive, team oriented leadership.
  5. Facilitates the use of library resources, materials and equipment, including the use of electronic information resources by library users.
  6. Provides library and information literacy instruction to students.
  7. Assists in developing and maintaining assigned circulating and reference collections through collection development.
  8. Serves on departmental and college teams and committees.
  9. Serves as Library Services Liaison to academic departments and/or other college departments.
  10. Develops and maintains print and electronic self-instructional guides to library resources and services for patron use.
  11. Develops and maintains subject guides and related subject specific electronic resources.
  12. Coordinates the collection of data regularly reported by campus library staff.
  13. Provides an environment that fosters personal and professional employee development.
  14. Provides library instruction in accordance with Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) guidelines for academic libraries.
  15. Assists in developing and implementing district-wide services and procedures.
  16. Builds and maintains good public/working relations with those with whom the position requires interaction.
  17. Keeps abreast of and follows current library policies, procedures and protocols.
  18. Keeps abreast of current developments in specific job related fields.
  19. Provides research assistance and library services to the college community (students, faculty, staff and community users).
  20. Recommends for hire, supervises, trains, assigns schedules, and evaluates assigned staff; provides guidance concerning personal and professional development.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Master’s degree in Library Science and/or Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program required.
  2. At least three (3) years of library experience required.
  3. Recent academic library experience, preferred.
  4. At least one (1) year of supervisory experience required.

  3. Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
