Position Summary:

Position:
The College of Music at the University of North Texas is looking for an experienced Opera Coach of high artistic standards and sensitivity to join the faculty of the University of North Texas College of Music in the Division of Vocal Studies (DVS) to support our nationally recognized opera program - UNT Opera.UNT Opera presents three full productions each year, accompanied by the UNT orchestras, and up to two concert operas, in the intimate setting of the Lyric Theater of the Murchison Performing Arts Center. The DVS faculty selects productions carefully with the goal of exposing our students to a wide variety of repertoire in a broad range of musical and theatrical styles. Students are given opportunities for solo or ensemble roles that complement their education both vocally and dramatically (productions are usually double-cast). Preparation for every production emphasizes process as well as product. Through consistent, individualized training, students achieve the highest standards of performing excellence.

Teaching Duties:
Coach and prepare singers (diction, style, musicianship, dramatic delivery); provide collaborative piano and conducting support for rehearsals, performances, auditions, etc.; serve as chorus master for UNT Opera productions and cover conductor as needed; effectively coach/mentor GAC and other student pianists; work collaboratively with the Opera Music Director and/or Director of Opera; other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Division of Vocal Studies or the Dean of the College.

Service:
Provide service to the College of Music, the University, and the opera profession in ways that align with the interests of the applicant; collaborative piano support for various outreach, fund-raising & publicity events; help recruit outstanding undergraduate and graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Music; Advanced collaborative piano skills; 3-5 years of experience as an opera coach at the professional or university level; expertise in lyric diction including English, French, German, Italian and Spanish; broad knowledge of operatic and musical theatre repertoire and clear evidence of collegiality.
