Data Engineering Lead

This position serves as subject matter expert for the Healthcare Data Harvesting team and plays a key role in complex problem solving. The role contributes significantly to requirements definition and execution as relates to data projects and project plans impacting the team. The position has direct reports.

Experience and Education

  • 7+ years Data Engineering, data management and data strategy experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering/Computer Science preferred but not required); or equivalent experience required.
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience working with health care data or organizations preferred


Responsibilities
  • Lead a team in the development and execution of automated programs that harvest data from State Board License websites and other sources. Serve as the initial point of escalation for data engineering issues within the Healthcare Data Harvesting team.
  • Able to understand and balance big picture priorities with daily work for self and team. Serve as resource manager for task and workflow resource prioritization.
  • Interface with other technical personnel or team members to document, interpret, and finalize requirements. Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of data components of moderate complexity.
  • Identify areas for improvement in collaboration with others. Implement initiatives improving overall capability and efficiency. Be a champion of continuous improvement initiatives and implementation of best practices around automation or other tools to meet testing needs.
  • Produce code that is efficient, repeatable, without defects, and adherent to best practices such as naming conventions, encapsulation, etc.
  • Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
  • Maintain flexibility to react quickly to changes in priorities or circumstances to meet the needs of the business.
  • Mentor, train and coach entry-level data engineers as directed by department management ensuring they are knowledgeable in critical aspects of their roles. Responsible for a full range of management responsibilities including performance reviews, development plans and goal setting.


Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of process improvement and data engineering process.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise in development languages and technologies such as Python, JavaScript, AWS, Selenium. Source control (git/bitbucket)
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise with various data types and formats including, but not limited to: JSON, XML, flat files, delimited, etc
  • Experience with Docker, celery, Django and/or Redis a plus.
  • Understanding of proxy anonymization, captcha solving, recursive searching
  • Experience working with Jira or similar project tracking tool.
  • Strong knowledge and in-depth understanding of functional area and all data, products, and services served from it.
  • Strong skills in setting, communicating, implementing and achieving business objectives and goals through the direct management of others
  • Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.


Leadership Skills
  • Strong organization/project planning, time management, change management.
  • Strong problem solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions, identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision making.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
