Our Direction for YOU:

Apply, train, and implement your experiences and seasoned knowledge of landscape maintenance, restoration, and design services to a variety of plants native and unique to the Keys . Lead by example day to day operations in our 14-acre resort. In this role, you will test the soil and inspect the land area, then collaborate with the landscaping company to maintain and determine the best plants based on proven skills to ensure the plants thrive and the resort continues to look lush, tropical and captivating to our guest whilst adhering to the county requirements relevant to our resort In your Leadership role, consistency in communication, daily passion for training, development of future managers, and problem resolution are key attributes that will serve you while also achieving extraordinary service with our internal and external guests through your journey. General Responsibilities:

Oversees management, and operation of the beautiful, lush 14-acre landscaping at the resort. Ensures all policies and procedures are enforced and adhered to. Facilitates and creates a great working relationship between Playa Largo Resort and Spa Landscaping Company and Management regarding upkeep and presentation for landscape of the resort. A leader who is passionate about the work, self-motivated and team oriented. Position reports to a Director of Engineering

  • Qualifications (Essential):
  • Bachelor's degree in plant science, social science, horticulture (or associate degree and equivalent experience)
  • Knowledge of local rules of the hoticulture industry and experience working with native plants;
  • Modern practices and principles of horticulture, arboriculture, agronomy, and related fields., native plants, and drought tolerant landscaping and water conservation strategies
  • Proper use and safe operation of hand and power operated tools utilized in all phases of horticulture work
  • Insects, parasites, diseases, and other infestation which affect trees, shrubs, plants, flowers, and grass and the composition and application of insecticides, fungicide, and herbicides for their control.
  • Plant biology and the common and botanical names of local trees, plants, and flowers.
  • Irrigation systems and turf management, and guidelines for trimming, dead wooding, removal, planting, and staking.
Ability to:
  • Detect tree, plant and turf diseases and determine corrective measures
  • Read, interpret, and develop landscape plans
  • Satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • Provide legible communication. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organization.
  • Accurately compute mathematical calculations and use required measurement tools.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Understand chemical and fertilizer labels and plan, assign, and supervise the work of a small group of staff
  • Perform heavy, strenuous manual labor, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.

Qualifications (Desired):
  • Knowledge of Monroe County horticulture rules
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Previous guest relations and/or training.
