GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The incumbent is responsible for providing group psychotherapy on inpatient units, residential, and/or partial hospital programs, along with providing individual therapy which focuses on the application and acquisition of skills addressed in groups. Provided groups will fit within the following frameworks: 1) educational, 2) social interaction, 3) community-making. They will work with the specific unit's Inpatient Group Coordinator to facilitate group experiences and support the needs of the identified client population. Additionally, they are encouraged to participate in other hospital activities including, as time allows, committees, teaching, trainings, and research.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides group and/or individual therapy to clients as assigned. Interventions should be structured appropriately to the specific clientele being served. Therapist will be responsible for both set-up before and clean-up after the group occurs.
  • The therapist provides a non-judgmental environment in which clients can process and verbalize personal insight and awareness of their issues.
  • When appropriate, provide consultation to clinical teams based on specific areas of expertise/training.
  • Documents inpatient hospital group forms within established time parameters and in accordance with hospital procedures.
  • Follows all established group therapy protocols.
  • Reviews and contributes to specified program's Group Resources Manual, which details group descriptions, goals, methods, and resources.
  • Maintains contact with other clinical staff and unit leadership through participation in rounds, staff meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings, treatment planning meetings, and other meetings as necessary.
  • Consults with program staff in development of skills training groups.
  • Alerts appropriate staff (e.g., Nurse Director, Medical and/or Clinical Director, Treatment Teams) of emergent clinical issues that occur during group sessions.
  • Participates in group therapy training opportunities when required.
  • Reports to Inpatient Group Therapy Coordinator for supervision and Nurse Director (or other identified program lead) for performance evaluations.


Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree (MA) or higher from a recognized clinical/counseling or related behavioral health training program, including: Expressive Therapy, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Educational Psychology, Psychology, Psychiatry.
  • Licensure in area of study/training is required.
  • Previous group and individual therapy experience preferred.
