Responsibilities
  • This position coordinates the graduate student program in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, responsible for processes including coordinating recruitment, admissions, monitoring student progress, tuition waivers, and assisting with policy development.
  • Responsible for supporting graduate student retention. Advises graduate students on their progress to candidacy and graduation, and monitors that requirements have been met. Coordinates the process of major professor selection, serves as a liaison between students and faculty, evaluates the process and implements changes. Assists students with registration and enrollment. Processes tuition waivers in conjunction with Academic Programs Coordinator. Serves as the department representative to the Graduate School and other University offices.
  • Communicates with prospective graduate students and provides academic guidance and counseling. Coordinates graduate recruitment visitation weekends, including travel, lodging and scheduling. Processes application materials for prospective graduate students in conjunction with the Graduate Admissions Office. Creates brochures and other materials for promoting and marketing the graduate program. Attends professional conferences for graduate recruitment. Plans and organizes orientation for incoming graduate students.
  • Serves as a non-voting member of the Graduate Academic Advising Committee (GAAC). Works with the committee and the Academic Programs Coordinator to establish policy regarding academic requirements for graduate students and to update the Graduate Student Handbook. Reviews current students annual reviews and provide summary to GAAC.
  • Maintains up-to-date graduate student databases for reporting on both recruitment and retention to Academic Programs Coordinator, faculty committees, and department administration. Performs other duties as needed to support the graduate and alumni affairs efforts of the department.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments, strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with applicable computer applications to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent software.
  • Ability to evaluate applicant information and determine eligibility.
  • Valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain upon hire.
Preferred
  • Experience in academic program planning, development, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of event planning and ability to coordinate, organize and evaluate meetings and/or events.
  • Experience with the admission process.

Anticipated Salary Range

Anticipated starting salary in the mid to high $30,000's, commensurate with qualifications.

If not otherwise specified, schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm.
