Summary Statement

Performs turf and facilities maintenance and repair at the Warms Springs Golf Course (WSGC) or Quail Hollow Golf Couse (QHGC). Installs, maintains, and operates irrigations systems throughout the facility. Performs minor maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment. Provides a high level of customer service and ensures all safety precautions are taken to minimize risk to employees and customers. Work is performed under general supervision and direction.

Essential Functions

Utilizes a variety of tools to perform grounds maintenance such as planting, pruning, and weeding. Applies chemicals to ensure the health and well being of plants and gardens. Conducts plant health assessment and sod installation. Sets timing clocks on sprinkler systems, replaces broken sprinkler heads, performs system pressure checks and winterization of facility irrigation system. Ensures common travel and use areas on course are free from branches, limbs, and related hazards. Digs drains as required to relieve areas of over watering. Mows course greens, rakes bunkers, and empties trash cans on a daily basis. Provides input and recommendations for maintenance procedures, watering requirements, and irrigation system adjustments. Identifies pest infestations and utilizes Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles to treat issues. (45%)

Operates a wide variety of hand tools, power equipment, light and heavy equipment such as mowers and drills to perform general maintenance and repair to buildings and facilities. Inspects facilities for damage and areas in need of repair. Performs semi-skilled mechanical duties, carpentry, painting, masonry, and custodial maintenance. Utilizes various cleaning solutions and solvents to clean buildings, restrooms, equipment, and other facilities within golf course. Performs seasonal duties such as snow and leaf removal. (30%)

Stocks supplies such as toilet paper, water cups, and paper towels. Assists customers as required. Ensures the safety of employees and customers when utilizing tools and equipment. Inspects fire extinguishers to make sure they are up to date. (15%)

Performs routine minor maintenance and repairs on tools and equipment such as small dump trucks and tractors, riding mowers, golf carts, blowers, hedge trimmers, grinders, power saws, chain saws, leaf sweepers, and other related equipment. (10%)

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Requires education and/or experience to attain the following:

One year experience working in parks maintenance including duties such as maintaining and repairing irrigation systems and utilizing pesticides, and a high school diploma or GED.

Working knowledge of turf maintenance and standards; standard safety practices related to relevant tools and equipment; Integrated Pest Management principles for treating disease, insects and weeds; chemical application and related safety procedures; irrigation systems and maintenance; basic facility maintenance.

Ability to operate vehicles, heavy equipment, power and hand tools; safely utilize related protective gear and safety equipment; maintain an awareness of golfers and stray golf balls; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; and perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Two years experience performing grounds and turf maintenance in a golf course facility.

Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid Idaho driver's license.

Ability to obtain an Idaho Pesticide Operators License issued by the Idaho State Department of Agriculture within three months of employment.

Special Requirements
All applicants must be able to successfully pass City of Boise background check processes which include reference checks and criminal history checks.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs. Also the employee is rarely pushing/pulling up to 35 lbs, rarely pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs. The noise level is frequently loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk and hear. Work in this position also includes distance vision and peripheral vision.

Working Environment
The work environment will include outdoor weather conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to chemicals. Additional environmental conditions include: Employees to be aware of golfers and golf balls.
This position works: weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
