Lake Area Technical College is accepting applications for a General Education Speech Instructor. The Speech Instructor position is full-time and duties will be completed in person, on the Lake Area Tech campus in Watertown, South Dakota. This position is open until filled.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Communications or closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the discipline required.

1. Strong classroom management skills with prior on campus and/or online teaching experience a plus.
2. Ability to utilize technology to enhance instruction both on campus and online.
3. Excellent people skills, affinity for working with young adults and coworkers in a team environment.
4. Bilingual a plus.
5. National Career Readiness Certificate level Silver or higher a plus.

REPORTS TO: General Education Department Supervisor, Dean of Academics, Vice President

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Classroom instruction of courses in Speech and other related communications courses as assigned.
2. Alignment with the course outcomes of the South Dakota Board of Regents to guarantee transferability.
3. Display a strong theoretical background in the National Communication Association's Transactional Model of Communication.
4. Utilize the nine Learning Outcomes of Communication in curriculum development and assessment.
5. Curriculum development of all assigned subjects, using innovative technology wherever possible.
6. Utilize online course materials through the learning management system.
7. Work in partnership with the other faculty members to maintain an effective teaching team.
8. Maintain all related documentation.
9. Assist with accreditation and assessment as assigned.
10. Other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

180 day contract starting Fall 2022. Compensation set by the Watertown School Board in accordance with the state postsecondary technical instructor salary formula.
