Summary of Position

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Inflammation/Center for Microbiology and Immunology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Full and/or Associate Professor levels whose research program is in the field of microbiology and immunology.

We are seeking candidates who have basic/translational research programs in any field related to host-microbe interactions. This includes but not limited to how microbiota impacts host immunity during vaccination or infection, pathogens alter the microbiota to establish productive infections, and to elicit human disease.

The Center was established in 2021 to advance discoveries in host-microbiome interactions, host-pathogen interactions and immune genetics to elucidate the pathogenesis of complex immune and infectious diseases. The Center for Microbiology and Immunology believes in the value of basic science discovery, the diversity of all individuals to promote innovation in personalized health care of immune diseases, and excellence in microbiology, immunology and microbiome research coupled with education. Successful candidates will join an interactive faculty housed at a major medical school in Philadelphia, with state-of-the-art core facilities including confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, BSL-2,-3 labs and excellent AAALAC-accredited animal facilities. Moreover, there is full access to the core facilities at Fox Chase Cancer Center, including DNA Sequencing, High Throughput Screening, Molecular Modeling, Gene Expression Analysis, and Transgenic Mouse Facility. Our Center is located across the street from Temple University Hospital, and we have long-standing and productive collaborations with clinicians and physician-scientists.

Candidate Qualifications

  • M.D., Ph.D., or M.D. /Ph.D.
  • Rigorous extramurally funded, independent research program.
  • A record of outstanding research productivity, including high quality publications.
  • A stern commitment in providing an excellent education and mentorship for Graduate and Professional students.
  • Academic credentials for a faculty appointment at the rank of Full or Associate Professor.
  • A commitment to support and promulgate diversity among faculty, staff, students and patients.
