Job Summary:

The Financial Analyst supports the Specialty P&C (SPC) segment routine forecasting, periodic analysis, and financial reporting. This individual must be self-motivated and work well independently in order to prepare reports for SPC monthly, quarterly and annual reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

70% - Routine Forecasting, Periodic Analysis, and Financial Reporting:

• Prepares re-forecasts for current year and future year income statement.
• Assists in the development of the budget, planning, and other corporate financial requirements.
• Prepares regular analysis of actual versus budget for the income statement, which would include detailed analysis of specific aspects of the income statement such as premiums, losses, other underwriting expenses, investment returns and other income.
• Prepares financial presentations for use by members of senior management for internal management meetings and other meetings as needed.
• Prepares or assists with preparation of a variety of financial reports or portions of financial reports.
• Works with the software support team to maintain the local Reporting and Adaptive Budgeting system. Tasks will include: actual and forecast data within the database, population of budget workbooks, data recalculations, and data interfaces. Serves as contact for budget software support.

20% - Collaboration and Communication with Stakeholders:

• Assists internal and external auditors, state examiners, and taxing authorities, as applicable, by providing appropriate documentation and support when requested.
• Demonstrates proactive communication to his/her supervisor of progress made toward assigned tasks and projects and to business leaders regarding issues affecting their areas of responsibility.
• Acts as a business partner with respect to requests for financial information by considering data integrity, confidentiality, and needs of the party requesting the information.
• Participates as an active team member, offering help to other areas when needed and available.

10% - Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the execution of special projects as directed.
• Works collaboratively with contract staff or professional services firms engaged to provide services to assigned area(s).

Qualifications:

• Degree in accounting/finance/economics with a minimum of 3 years' experience in an analytical role.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, & Word required.
• Ability to inter-relate the various components of the company, i.e., claims, premium, marketing, etc., in order to effectively develop and manage the dynamic financial analysis model. Ability to see the big picture is a must.
• Strong written and oral communication skills required.
• Excellent organization and interpersonal skills required.
• Must be able to work independently.
• Manages own time to accomplish tasks and projects by set due dates with minimal direct supervision.
• Working knowledge of insurance accounting principles as well as a general understanding of reinsurance principles would be a plus.
• Financial modeling experience a plus.
