The Environmental Engineering and Consulting team delivers solutions for complex environmental challenges using our regulatory expertise and implementing practical and cost-effective compliance management processes and programs. We address our clients' biggest concerns around permitting, ecoservices, assessment, and remediation.

Our highly trained and experienced engineers and scientists, environmental and remediation specialists, geologists, hydrogeologists, biologists, and environmental compliance specialists work with both public- and private-sector clients, delivering turnkey solutions.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Our Project Geologist is located in Robbinsville, NJ. This role is a Hybrid position. 2-3 days in the office per week with work from home flexibility.

Our Project Geologist directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organizing, controlling, integrating, and completing projects within the area of assigned responsibility - Environmental Remediation, Site Assessment (Phase I and Phase II), and RCRA/CERCLA/Brownfield Investigations. The Project Scientist is experienced in managing environmental projects, supervising field team operations, monitoring subcontractor performance and managing both the internal team performance and client expectations.

As a key member of the Montrose Environmental Solutions team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

  • Work on environmental projects for federal, commercial and private clients.
  • Coordinate and implement field efforts related to environmental investigation including Preliminary Assessments, Site Inspections, and Remedial Investigations.
  • Coordinate, direct, and train field staff performing sampling of groundwater, soil, and other environmental media
  • Lead and direct the planning of environmental investigations and provide analysis and interpretation of data to identify data gaps and recommend changes to the investigative approach.
  • Supervise subcontractors and field personnel performing geophysical surveys, direct push/drilling investigations, and implement environmental remediation.
  • Work with a senior project manager to assist the day-to-day operations of technical staff assigned to projects by assigning, monitoring, and reviewing progress and accuracy of work, directing efforts, and providing technical guidance.
  • Complete project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, and develop graphical presentations logically and professionally.
  • Work with a senior project manager to consult with clients to prepare plans, reports, and assessments
  • Exercise judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Be responsible for project budget and hours and utilizes time effectively to complete tasks within the assigned timeframe(s)
  • Work with a senior project manager to communicate project status
  • Communicate to leadership when potential issues are foreseen or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget
  • Oversee project setup and authorization paperwork to include: project authorizations, contracts, subcontracts, purchase order requests, and project schedules
  • Work with a senior project manager to oversee project financial management duties including project projections, project invoicing, subcontractor invoice approvals, progress reporting, and project/subcontractor contract compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs
  • Participate in the company's continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts
  • Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attend professional workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Engineering or Environmental Studies
  • 5+ years of related experience in project management, performing environmental investigations and leading field efforts
  • Strong background in NJDEP regulations and site remediation preferred
  • Technical background in conducting preliminary assessments, remedial investigations, and implementing remedial actions
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided drawing software (AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.).
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • This position can be physically demanding and will require work in various working environments/conditions which requires that an individual be physically capable of canvassing large project areas by foot on uneven terrain and potentially in inclement weather.
  • Work environment will vary greatly depending on nature of assigned tasks.
  • The position may involve local travel as needed
