A Brief Overview

The OSP Fiber Placement I installs the fiber optic cable at job sites at the OSP Fiber Manager's direction. This position ensures all fiber is handled within manufacturer specifications and Clearwave Fiber standards.

What this position does to contribute to the Company’s success:

  • Will place all fiber in the outside plant.
  • Responsible for the safe installation of fiber to the home and business.
  • Handles fiber optic cable by using fiber blowing and pulling tools and equipment.
  • Set up splicers with the right cable lengths and direction of cable.
  • Ensure our customers have a good experience while we are in their place of business or home.
  • Accesses attics and crawlspaces to assess fiber routes.
  • Uploads all maps, notes and routing information via app (phone) and laptop.
  • Performs aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber, installing fiber storage (snow shoes), completing pole transfers and performing necessary clean-up work.
  • Operates and maintains vehicle, tools, test equipment and other company-owned equipment in accordance with system guidelines and procedures.
  • Uses safety guidelines set forth by the company to survey job sites to consider all safety measures to ensure a safe working environment for associates, the general public, and property.
  • Remains up to date with proper safety equipment and the proper use of the equipment and installation.
  • Takes on other duties needed to help drive our values.


Qualifications:

  • Experience with fiber splicing or fiber handling preferred.
  • High School Diploma High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • 1 year or more experience interacting with customers required.
  • Prior training and knowledge in engineering or the telecommunications industry preferred.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), surveying, customer interaction or project coordination preferred.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends, or variable schedule, as necessary.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people and build collaborative relationships.
  • Solid customer interaction skills.
  • Ability to read fiber industry drawings and designs or experience in reading technical schematics.
  • Basic understanding of fiber plant design or ability to quickly grasp detailed structural concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps.
