SUMMARY:

The Principal Process Development Engineer will lead research design testing justification and deployment of new Processing technology to deliver new or improved product or process concepts. The Principal Engineer leads influences project teams to investigate and recommend methods or processes innovation and or process equipment bring assigned projects to successful conclusion. The Principal Engineer is a critical business partner with multiple BUs and supply chain to determine strategic direction for future process development. The Principal Process Development Engineer will research new technologies to apply to Tyson's products. Additionally, they will provide technical support to Product Development Business Unit BU Supply Chain Technical Services in the area of technical expertise. The individual in this role will also support Supply Chain and the BU function in manufacturing of products that meet customer and consumer expectation for character cost and quality in the assigned product categories. The principal process development engineer is in thermal processing unit operations for food manufacturing and food safety. The principal process engineer leads relationships with academia; mentors and teaches to R&D the process development group and the company. The Principal Process Engineer must effectively manage recommend projects that will lead to opportunities in innovation growth intellectual property and profitability. Proven demonstrated results and acumen in processing innovation with product launches.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated expert with product and processing interactions sustainability food protections and package testing
  • Demonstrated expert in processing equipment, processing processes, and working with supply chain engineering on capital projects involving processing solutions
  • Demonstrated expert in sustainability requirements
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in managing recommending projects that will lead to opportunities in innovation growth intellectual property and profitability
  • Lead relationships with Academia Critical business partner influencing strategic processing direction for Tyson
  • Influences strategic supply base towards Tysons long term processing goals

Education
  • BS or MS in Chemical Food Mechanical Agricultural Engineering or related field

Experience
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience total
  • Minimum of 6 years in an advanced technical position managing cross-functional teams and Processing suppliers

Computer Skills
  • Requires basic computer skills. For example, generating simple letters spreadsheets and creating simple queries
  • May require knowledge of Tyson Business Computer
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Solid Works Space claim modeling software etc. is a plus

Communication Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent presentation skills required
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all functional and business unit management levels

Special Skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • A subject matter expert in at least one major area within Tyson Foods and have strong analytical thinking skills

Supervisory
  • May have 1-3 direct and 5 plus indirect reports

Travel
  • Up to 25% travel required
  • 12 plus domestic or international trips per year
