The Family Support Services Coordinator directs and supervises volunteers in supporting patients and their family members through various services including visitation, transportation, personal services, special events and patient mail delivery. The Coordinator manages relationships with Hotel Partners and supports the Director of Volunteer Services and Internal Engagement and the Volunteer Coordinator with various assignments and projects in the Volunteer Services department including weekend/evening events such as Spinal Cord Injury Unit family dinners and other patient/family-focused events. The Coordinator shares responsibility for the monthly volunteer newsletter and the monthly volunteer orientation. Manages the Red Cross Blood Drives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates, schedules, and supervises Family Support Services (FSS) volunteers in all aspects of the program including preparing all advertising, calendars and publications used for family support.
  • Responds quickly and appropriately to any non-clinical requests for assistance from patients or their family members during patient's stay.
  • Supports the Volunteer Coordinator in various ways including sharing the responsibility for the monthly newsletter and monthly volunteer orientation.
  • Supports the Director of Volunteer Services and Internal Engagement with various assignments and projects in the department.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with Hotel Partners, advertises their information on paper and website, and organizes and oversees all events they sponsor.
  • Oversees all aspects of patient and department mail delivery.
  • Schedules, organizes, and advertises the employee Red Cross Blood Drive three times a year.
  • Orders all supplies for department and Family Lounge. Restocks informational items as needed and kitchen items daily. Ensures area is tidy and well-maintained and reports issues/repairs as they occur.
  • Assists with Shepherd Cares (Employee Fundraiser) including planning and implementing a promotional activity.
  • Assists with coordination of special events for the department.
  • Manages monthly patient/family events calendar.
  • Oversees acknowledgment of all birthdays of active volunteers.
  • Maintains Clothes Closet of donated clothing for patients, including maintaining relationship with our main supplier, The Assistance League of Atlanta.
  • Assists with volunteer file updates and maintenance.
  • Regularly interacts with volunteers, patients, patient families, physicians, donors and visitors at Shepherd Center.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • Associate degree from accredited college or university, or Bachelor's degree preferred.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • Excellent customer service and computer skills.
  • Prior experience in organizing special events and/or working with volunteers preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and be self-motivated in completing tasks.
REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS
  • Proficient in MS Office applications
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge database
  • Accurate typing skills,
  • Knowledge of routine office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • General good health and mobility.
  • Must be able to do heavy lifting (10-25 pounds).
  • Must be able to walk a lot.
